Learn alongside an experienced crew
New arrivals and crew members who fall behind can catch up without replacing the game's normal XP progression.
Server only: Players do not need CrewMentorship or LuaCsForBarotrauma installed.
How it works
- At each round start, CM calculates a personal reference from the other eligible crew members' total XP.
- Characters below the configured minimum are raised to the reference level minus the chosen gap. Default: 3 levels behind.
- Characters below their XP target receive an extra mission reward. Default: +50% of the mission's base XP, limited to the remaining gap.
- Players and enabled bots follow the same rules. Disabling bots also excludes them from the average.
- Normal XP and vanilla/modded bonuses are preserved. CM does not impose a combined XP bonus cap.
References are renewed every round. Earlier catch-up can raise the next round's average and trigger a further minimum adjustment. Books, medals and other non-mission XP are not increased by CM.
Independent options
- cm_bots 0/1 — bot catch-up and inclusion in the average. Default: 1.
- cm_xp 0/1/2/3/4 — mission supplement off / +25 / +50 / +75 / +100%. Default: 2.
- cm_lvl 0/1/2/3/4/5 — automatic minimum off, or level gap below the reference. Default: 3.
- cm_captain 0/1 — optional captain permissions. Default: 0.
You can use XP catch-up, captain permissions, or both. For permissions only: cm_xp 0, cm_lvl 0, cm_captain 1.
Optional captain permissions
When enabled, ordinary captains receive money management, bot talent management and map/mission selection, even with staff present. Without an available captain, bot-talent access follows vanilla money-management eligibility. Admin and moderator permissions are never modified.
This feature is inactive on a fresh installation. After first use, disabling cleans its three managed flags from ordinary players, including returning players; manually assigned flags on non-staff can also be removed. Other permissions are preserved.
Admin tools and messages
cm_help lists all commands. cm_status provides read-only diagnostics. cm_lvl_up "Character name" N and cm_lvl_bots N support target levels up to 25 and reset talents for reallocation. Level/configuration changes require ManagePermissions; client F3 also requires ConsoleCommands. Chat alternatives use !cm_...
Private adjustment reminders and command replies support 13 client languages: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain/Latin America), Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese and Korean. Bot adjustments generate one grouped reminder per eligible captain/admin/moderator. Ordinary XP level-ups do not generate CM boxes.
Installation and configuration
Install and enable the mod on the server, with LuaCs installed there. Restart the server completely. Keep only one CM copy loaded. Settings are created automatically in the Barotrauma user save directory under CrewMentorship/config.lua and survive mod updates. The server log gives the exact path. Debug is off by default.
Mod load order:
- LuaCsForBarotrauma
-
Beta feedback
- Developed and tested against Barotrauma 1.13.4.0 on a Linux dedicated server under AMP. Native captain-rights/fallback/cleanup scenarios and wider mod combinations need beta feedback. Mods replacing mission reward distribution may require additional compatibility testing.
- For a report, include game/LuaCsForBarotrauma/CrewMentorship versions, active mods, relevant settings and reproduction steps. Enable debug for XP/message issues and collect logs through the following station round. Remove private account/IP information before sharing. Keep a campaign backup when testing admin talent resets.
