Creature Containment — Editor & Client

Build and manage Creature Containment zones directly in DayZ. Use an in-game freecam editor to configure boundaries, creature spawns, and teleport destinations, then review and save your changes to the server.

This shared package is required by every player on a Creature Containment server. Editor access is granted separately by the server owner.

Editor features

  • Three dedicated tabs: Boundaries, Spawns, and Teleports, with outlined sections, scrolling lists, and editable coordinates.
  • Visual editing: red boundaries, green spawns, blue teleport destinations, and containment-volume previews.
  • Point tools: box selection, dragging, manual XYZ editing, deletion, and Undo.
  • Spawn tools: searchable creature-class selection, individual living targets and respawn delays, and point/circle/polygon placement.
  • Spawn height modes: Configured, Terrain, and Solid surface.
  • Fast duplication: copy full zones, copy spawn rules, or copy selected spawn points within the same rule. Generate grids of up to 256 points.
  • Rotation: rotate selected spawn points by a chosen angle or with Ctrl + right-drag. Grid placement follows camera heading; pasted points rotate relative to the heading used when copied.
  • Quick navigation: configurable previous/next zone hotkeys with wraparound, usable in every tab and placement/movement mode, with the menu open or closed.
  • All-zone preview: display other zones and their spawn/teleport markers while editing the selected zone.
  • Local drafts: export a draft, add imported zones to your current draft, or explicitly replace it. Duplicate imported zone IDs receive a suffix.
  • Server saves: review changes before applying them, with transfer progress, validation feedback, and conflict reporting. Independent same-zone fields and different rules/groups can merge.

Installation and access

Load this package through -mod on the server and every client. The server also requires the matching Creature Containment — Server package through -serverMod.

The server owner grants editor access by adding Steam64 IDs to AdminSteam64Ids in $profile:CreatureContainment/EditorAccess.json.

Default controls

  • F7: open or exit the editor.
  • Alt: show or hide the settings menu.
  • F8: toggle point placement.
  • Tab: toggle point movement mode.
  • Right-drag: box-select points; left-drag: move selected points in movement mode.
  • Delete: remove selected points; F6: Undo.
  • Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V: copy selected spawn points / paste at aim within the same rule while in freecam.
  • F10 / F11: previous / next zone.
  • F9: toggle all-zone display.

Bindings can be changed under Creature Containment in DayZ Controls. Existing custom bindings are preserved. Local edits apply to the server only after a successful server save.
