In update 1.27, branch-cracking sounds were added when walking or sprinting in forest areas.
In my opinion, the existing forest soundscape is already very immersive—you have tree noises, rustling bushes, wind, and ambient animal sounds like birds. With these new branch-cracking sounds on top, it feels overwhelming to me, not as calm as before.
Additionally, the new sounds don’t really resemble branches cracking; they sound more like someone playing with plastic foil. The sharpness of the audio makes them feel out of place. (this is just my opinion)
This fix removes these sounds entirely, restoring the audio experience to how it was in previous patches.
Tested on Cherno but should also work on Livonia and Sakhal.
