Maxwell Helper

Comprehensive, real-time information for Maxwell's Codex Umbra spells:

1. Shadow Prison Timer - Shows the remaining control time above any target trapped by Shadow Prison, displaying both the longest and shortest possible duration. Colour and position are customisable.

2. Shadow Sneak Timer - Shows the remaining lifetime of the Shadow Sneak trap itself (24 minutes), plus a panic countdown (12 seconds) above any creature it affects. (Not shown for creatures that have been transformed into shadow form, e.g. Bunnymen.)

3. Cast Range Indicator - While holding the Codex Umbra, opening the spell wheel or aiming any of the four spells draws a circular range indicator at your feet showing the maximum cast distance (radius 8).

Every feature can be toggled on/off independently in the mod configuration menu, and you can customise colour, opacity, position, font size and more.

New: a few optional helper features. They are all disabled by default and have to be enabled manually in the mod configuration. This mod is still an information display first - the helpers are purely optional extras.

◆ Shadow Prison Timer (details)

Shadow Prison's duration decreases when the target is attacked. The game checks for attacks once per second: if the target is hit during that second, the duration drains 1.5x faster. If the target is hit every single second across the full 24 seconds, the shortest duration is about 16 seconds; if only one or two hits land inside a single checked second, only about 0.5 seconds is lost. A handful of hits barely affects the duration.

Because a local client cannot listen to attack events on shadow_pillar_target in real time, the actual duration cannot be tracked dynamically, so I compromised. The current implementation spawns two timers when the prison is cast, based on the creature type, showing the longest and shortest possible durations - i.e. both a 24-second and a 16-second timer. Bosses and players get their own durations. This covers the need well enough, and the compromise stays until a way to listen to the duration locally is found.

◆ Shadow Sneak Timer

Once you place a Shadow Sneak trap, a countdown of its remaining lifetime (24 minutes) is shown above it. As soon as a creature triggers the trap and enters the panic state (without being transformed into shadow form), a panic countdown (12 seconds) appears above that creature. That lets you know exactly how much fear time is left. Both timers are fully customisable.

◆ Cast Range Indicator

While holding the Codex Umbra and either opening the spell wheel or aiming any of the four spells, a semi-transparent circular range ring appears at your feet. The ring has a radius of 8, matching the maximum cast distance. It helps you find the best position before casting. The ring's colour and opacity can be adjusted in the settings.

All settings can be adjusted in-game from the mod configuration screen (Client Mods -> Maxwell Helper). This is a client-side-only mod: it only affects your own interface and is safe to use on any server.
