Wort: The Shambling Fungus

Traits:

[table] [tr] [th]TRAIT[/th] [th]DESCRIPTION[/th] [/tr] [tr] [td]Is a fungus. He CONSUMES.[/td] [td]Wort is very hungry. He can eat pretty much all organic matter. Unless it's meat: mushrooms don't grow on meat. To keep things balanced, a great many of the organic items he is able to put in his mouth don't actually benefit him in any way. He converts all nutrient-deficient meals into wet goop, with a very small chance of turning them into a lesser glowberry instead.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Harmed by eating mushrooms.[/td] [td]0/10 do not recommend. Wort has nothing to gain and a lot to lose from eating his fellow mushrooms.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Thrives in the rain.[/td] [td]Wort feeds off the moisture during rain, so you will notice his hunger decreasing until the storm lets up. His sanity is also not affected by the rain. He does, however, still get cold so don't get too confident.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Colors change according to time of day.[/td] [td]Wort mimics the stationary mushrooms growing in the Constant. His colors are red during the day, green at dusk, and blue at night. He also has a fourth phase that triggers on a full moon or while traversing the Lunar Island.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Spawns spores upon eating rot.[/td] [td]Rot is one of Wort's favorite foods and he will spawn a single spore for every piece of rot he devours. The spore will always reflect his present color. With the exception of the Benign Lunar Spores during his lunar phase, there is nothing unique about his spores; they are exactly the same as all other spores in the game.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Benign Lunar Spores.[/td] [td]Dropped during his lunar phase, these spores are as harmless as their red, green, and blue counterparts and may be planted in Mutated Fungal Turf.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Can plant spores in corresponding fungal turf without the need of a mushroom farm.[/td] [td]If Wort is on red fungal turf, he can plant red spores. If he is on green fungal turf, he can plant green spores. If he is on blue fungal turf... you get the idea.[/td] [/tr] [td]Can infect trees during rainfall.[/td] [td]When it is raining, Wort can use spores to infect trees and transform them into mushtrees. The infections are directly tied to the color of spores used, and each spore color can only be used during its corresponding time of day.[/td] [tr] [td]Glows in the dark.[/td] [td]He let's off a very short-range bioluminescent glow during dusk and night.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Emits a toxic smell during the night.[/td] [td]Nearby players be warned: He is a toxic mushroom. Anyone tempted to use his light to survive the night will find themselves losing their grasp on reality with merciless swiftness.[/td] [/tr] [td]Can coax nearby mushrooms from their slumber.[/td] [td]As he draws near to sleeping mushrooms, they will rise from the ground regardless of time of day. This may be toggled off in configuration settings.[/td] [tr] [td]Is a monster.[/td] [td]Pigs, bunnymen, etc. are hostile towards him.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Can't speak.[/td] [td]Wort is a mushroom and mushrooms don't have vocal chords. This is for the best, as the world is not ready for the wisdom and truth he would disclose.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Spawns spores upon death.[/td] [td]Float on, my children. Be free.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Leaves behind a leafy meat instead of a skeleton.[/td] [td]Because, as you may or may not know, mushrooms don't have bones. We hope.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Has small chance of also spawning a glow berry upon death.[/td] [td]If you're good enough at staying alive, you'll probably never see this.[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Spiders are neutral.[/td] [td]Applies ONLY if you toggle this on in the mod menu. Spiders will ignore him if this function is activated. They will not accept bribery and will still attack if provoked.[/td] [/tr] [/table]

OFF by default - *Waking lunar mushrooms *Transformation upon entering the Lunar Island area *Spider neutrality

Planned changes:

(Life is happening a lot. I don't have time to work on these and don't know when I will. Sorry.) *Compatibility with mods: {Eusong's More Fruits Mod}, re-gorge-itated, reforged *Grogginess aura during Lunar Phase? Unsure is possible.

Known bugs:

*Top of the mushroom cap disappears during "mime" animations. This is a visual issue only and does not affect gameplay. There is also nothing I can do about it short of removing the animations altogether.
