I have updated the ship. The signals, which I hadn't configured correctly before, are now working as intended.
In "combat mode," all relevant systems focus on combat: - All thrusters are enabled - All weapons are enabled - Shields are activated - Drills are retracted - Gravity is disabled Systems not required during combat are switched off: - Food processor - Repair bay - Both constructors - Hangar door is closed - Deck ramp is closed
In "heavy-load mode," additional thrusters are activated when carrying a large cargo load.
Drill modules, pulse lasers, missile launchers, RCS, and gravity can each be toggled off individually.
Latest fix: In the workshop, I had installed a fan between the storage expansions. I have since replaced it. The container now holds a volume of 315,000 again.
