SV, Core9, Unlock Level 20, Class 2

High-G Planetary Miner for Reforged Galaxy/Eden 1.6.

Works only in Reforged Galaxy and Reforged Eden. This ship uses equipment only available in Reforged-based scenarios.

Warning: Exceeds default block limits for laser drills. Has partially obstructed thrusters. You may need to change your game options to use this build.

The Kuril is a mid-to-late-game planetary miner designed for rapidly stripping deposits from a planet. Its 13 drills are optimally placed to minimize overlap as much as possible, and are positioned far back on the ship so that when the laser hits the terrain surface it is cutting at its maximum width. The result is a ship that can easily slice a clean hole just a little bit narrower than a large deposit, while still being able to fit through a 9x5 hangar door (though it's a tad snug: expect to lose some paint). A warp drive, long-range radar, and 32k of harvest storage allow you to access any deposit in your system and bring back plenty of ore.

Although it is compact enough to tunnel inside its own borehole it is intended to use from above the planet surface. You simply aim straight down above a deposit and start mining a slice through the center of it. Then pull back, and cut two more slices above and blow that center slice. In 3-5 dips you can excavate an entire deposit without getting lost underground.

To keep weight down her hull is primarily carbon composite, though the oxygenated cabin is protected by a layer of steel and armored windows. For defenses you have a standard shield generator, 2 gatling cannons, and 4 minigun turrets. Two of the minigun turrets are mounted vertically in the back so they can effectively shoot drones while you are digging nose-down.

She is 4+G lift capable when you enable the "Max Thrust" switch on the control panel, though depending on the ore you're harvesting you may only be able to lift a half-load on high-G planets. There is a physical "Flight Mode" switch in the cockpit that will enable and disable the appropriate thrusters and weapons so the ship will stay in low power usage when parked. I recommend using the custom signal switches in the control panel to activate devices.

The "Spotlights" and "Floodlights" signal switches in the control panel control the external lighting. "Spotlights" will enable only the forward facing lights for navigation, while "Floodlights" enables 360 degree surround and underside lighting for exploring dark planets.

The Kuril also has the typical equipment you would expect from a Core9 ship: constructor, trauma station, armor locker, O2 station, 2 passenger seats, and wireless access. There is also an easy-to-use drone hatch in the cabin for safely exploring dangerous planets.

All generators are accessible for repair if required. Four are accessible through hatches on the underside of the wings, and two more are accessible through the upgrade hatch on the back of the ship.

All doors, passenger seats, and health devices are public by default. All storage and the pilot seat are private.

Named after the Kuril-Kamchatka trench.
