Introducing the Quickstrike LX-3, the latest build from Filbert Shipyards!
**UPDATED FOR 1.4 COMPLIANCE**
The Quickstrike LX-3 is a combat carrier CV that is designed to serve as a mobile base offering both combat capabilities and support infrastructure for a full planetary assault!
The design of the Quickstrike combines the aesthetic of the Claymore X3 battle cruiser with the functional design of Jrandall's MCRN Draper carrier. I took a lot of inspiration in shapes and decor from certain areas of the Draper and adapted them to fit the claymore chassis.
Performance-wise the Quickstrike handles combat surprisingly well. Honestly i only intended the armor and arms of the Quickstrike to be defensive in nature as I assume most will use this CV with a faction in CO-OP and will thus have an escort, but i wanted to see what it could do. In testing i was able to knock out corvettes and frigates with relative ease, and even crushed a spire in orbit! The only time the shields dropped was in my bout with the Orbital spire, which is bristling with ion cannons, and i only suffered superficial damage to the (full hardened steel) hull around the fixed pulse lasers. No hull blocks or turrets were lost in any of my engagements. That said, this is a carrier craft that most will use as a mobile base, so i wouldn't recommend hunting larger CV prey without a friend.
During testing i found the thruster package of this carrier to be very capable. On multiple occasions i carried multiple small-medium sized CV's on the flight deck while having 4 HV's and an SV in the Hangar (and with all that inside still looked almost bare as there was still tons more room!) and several kilotons of cargo! I even landed the Claymore X-3 (which isn't light as its made of combat steel...) on the flightdeck and not only could it dock, but the carrier could haul it no problem (stopping was a bit slower with that much weight, but that sized load is totally doable and she still hit max thrust!)
As far as its utility as a mobile base it is very well equipped. The carrier features a large HV/SV hangar with multiple doors including an HV ramp that allows for moving HVs to and from the topside flightdeck for loading/unloading onto planetary landing craft (my version of a lander to be posted soon!). 5 full 320,000 cargo systems (one of them is a harvest controller if you want to add CPU and then a salvage/drill turret) and a 320,000 vol ammo controller. Full medbay, 27 growplot farm and with 1.3 a solar power system! I haven't tested the solar in many situations (i did most all the testing in 1.2 REFORGED) but the plan is that when close to the star the solar would provide enough power to increase the range and decrease fuel consumption when away from home. The ship also features an advanced repair bay for repairing your HV/SV fleet, an Advanced CV Shield, and an Advanced CV warp drive!
My design philosophy with this build revolves around it and another CV i made to operate in tandem as a ground attack team. The idea was to move your carrier into a system and use either it or an escort to eliminate any OPV's in the sector. Once the orbit is safe and clear, park the carrier in orbit and load up a landing craft with the HV's you need for a ground assault. The dropship/landing craft CV i built has solar backup and most importantly a teleporter. The landing craft then acts like a FOP (forward operating position) on the planet surface while you attack planetary POI's. if you need supplies, full medical services, more food, whatever, then you teleport from the lander back up to the carrier in orbit to resupply.
