The purpose is to drop this in outer space to provide additional support, when facing extremely tough space enemies, like the Legacy CV's (Decimator & Infector). Since this is considered a base, you can put multiple in the same area to really give you a strong firepower advantage.
This base also includes a T2 Hull Shield and Pentaxid tank. I recommend filling it with pentaxid, as the shield is very valuable.
After dropped into the world you'll only need to add fuel, pentaxid, and ammo (requirements pictured).
I've added a few screen shots of these during battle, and with the corpses afterwards. I've killed MANY Legacy ships, sometimes juggling 4 at a time, and I've yet to take any significant damage. These work amazingly well.
