Sura EX

Introducing the Sura EX, the latest build from Filbert Shipyards!

The Sura EX is an experimental combat CV that is designed to fly and fight more like an agile fighter than a tank. Built with a premium placed on agility to complement the fixed weapon suite this CV is more capable than it may appear at first glance when used with a slightly different combat approach.

"The idea" Credit to the UTM faction from the Anvil RE Server (also credit to Xcal and the Admin team at the Anvil for running the best server in the game!!) for turning me on to a new style of weapon loadout. The UTM crew showed me some of the ships they use that rely more heavily on missiles than artillery. Using the insights i gained i created this experimental combat CV to test out the effectiveness of the missile turrets but more to test the Heavy Rocket launchers of Reforged.

"The testing" Done on the Anvil RE Server, the tests were pretty straight forward: take the Sura into combat against some known enemies and see what happened...

Initially i was a bit stiff in my fights as i had grown too accustomed to relying on my turrets for server combat (and the Sura has a scant few), but after a few scrapes i started to rely more on the Heavy Rockets to down my opponents. The rockets proved to be an incredibly effective tool for 'coring' an enemy ship, a tactic that can be made even easier if you know where the core is on an opponent... Another advantage to this little CV fighter is its small size. I found myself easily dodging incoming fire and zipping around inside asteroid fields. The size/agility combo allowed me to better use the 'terrain' of space to my advantage in combat, fighting in and around asteroid fields, denying larger enemies the full use of their arsenals to attack me all at once. Often the enemy would get stuck, especially if they were rather large, which allowed for an even easier kill. Pop up from cover and drill the core. Using these tactics and flying the CV more like an SV from Vanilla i was dropping infectors and decimators in a CV that only had 3 advanced CPU extenders!!

Another perk of having all those Heavy rockets is their alt-fire mode that can be used on planets. All that firepower can make short work of POI defenses too!! (just use right-mouse to do alt-fire)

Will the Sura EX down every enemy, no, will it replace your battleship or your quantum dread, no; but this thing will surprise you with what it can do and is perhaps a less costly way into some 'quantum hunting' fun given you are willing to do a little experimenting yourself with some new tactics in this clever little CV fighter.
