The Avarice

The Avarice is a Starter-CV & "Pursuit Miner" for accelerated early game progress. Featuring 4 Omnidirectional Mini-gun Turrets & 7 Sentries, It will lock on and neutralize an approaching drone from any angle/approach. The ship is an integrated Miner and Factory in One, Accruing large amounts of ore and processing it into ingots simultaneously to reduce cargo tonnage and accelerate factory production without need of a traditional base. With 6 Small constructors, the Avarice produces 720 Ingots per minute, it's about enough to keep up with your mining pace, given time to catch up as you move from asteroid to asteroid. The ship has purpose built space for an additional 2 Large or Advanced constructors, this space is marked in your lower hangar.

With 15 hull-integrated solar panels, You can turn off your thrusters for near-zero power consumption ( 30W ), it will run for 540 real-life hours ( nearly a month ) with the thrusters off, while continuing to run your fridge, and it's turrets, making it a good little auxillary defense tower when parked. The ship moves at full forward speeds at just 0.3 KW, for 48 Hours of cruise-time on a modest tank of 3 Medium Fuel tanks, it is a highly efficient ship, with space for even more solar if desired.

The Avarice features a Double-lateral entry hangar for parking your HV Harvester, and a top flight deck to house your SV. The ship has a full medical suite and captains quarters in it's top deck, as well as easy-access O2 station/Shower on both your Hangar, and top decks. Multiple entry and exit points at every part of the ship make moving into, out of, and through the vessel a breeze and joy.

This bully little miner-starter has a fully encompassing Steel Shell around it's components, and it's cargo holds, with a 2nd layer of ablative Carbon over the steel, giving you 2 layers of protection. Your rear-thrusters have an additional layer of ablative armor to absorb any strikes from behind. She has beautiful thrust and handling characteristics for her tonnage, with a Uniform Pitch/Roll/Yaw around 50, full forward, backward, and upward thrust speeds, and the ability to push significant amounts of Ore/ingot tonnage at full speeds, including in atmosphere. The ship has 3G + Lift, for landing on a variety of early game planets as needed and for combat maneuvers in and out of space.

She has room for expansion, purpose built space for an Additional large generator, as well as a Central command suite to house an additional 8 Small constructors to process incidental crushed stone into Copper/silicon/iron. The ship has a designated bay for a Compact Shield generator in it's engine room, and the command suite can be used as expansion space or to bring on Dozens of Crew members for a cheap, early CPU boost. About this ship and it's Mechanical drills.

I made this ship because I believe in it's ability to accelerate the early-mid-game and cut about an hour off your playthroughs, this ship personally brings me to about 8 Hours from Escape Pod to fighting a Dreadnought, the craft eliminates the need to hit an early POI or to do any planetary HV mining for zascosium or erestrum, it's cheaper than a Drill turret @ just 35 erestrum and zascosium, an amount easily acquired by shooting and looting a dozen drones while mining for your starter CV materials in your Jump-SV, it was a natural addition to my lineup.

4 Mechanical drills use 50k Less CPU than a Drill turret, have an Unlock level @ 15, rather than 20, and allows first person mining for better situational awareness. The ship is capable of mining while under pursuit, with a dozen drones and an enemy patrol vessel hot on your heels, you can fly in, grab ore, run a circle around your pursuers, and double back to grab more. It significantly reduces the risk of hitting High value and contested asteroids early in the game I tested these drills quite a bit, & I found that, arranged the right way they can be incredibly effective. I toyed with about every way you could arrange these, and this was the arrangement I found that effectively cleared the largest surface. Building a cockpit into a 1 Block space in the middle was a special challenge, but I took a whack at it because I really felt this was the only way these drills should be spaced to be effective.

I ran 3-5 minute tests @ the same ore type with different vehicles to test the CV Mechanical drills against other mining types, specifically, against the other miners youd have available early game.

You can see those tests here: https://youtu.be/O8GhIPfCKi8

- With 4 CV Mechanical drills, you are mining 300-400% faster than a SV w/ 8 Laser drills. - With 4 CV Mechanicals, you can mine 15% faster than with a Drill turret & without the need to lose first person control of your ship. Allowing you to easily respond to threats, or to mine on the run, at a much lower initial erestrum/zasc cost and less than half the CPU usage, they also come in 5 Levels lower as an Unlock Lvl 15.

The Avarice features a laser range finder to show you when you've come too close to the rocks surface to mine whats in front of you, With a cockpit at optimal distance for Seeing whats in front of you, without the drills significantly obstructing your view. This cockpit also has a Skylight drone port 2 steps back from your seat, for seamless looting of downed drones using your own, giving you an easy and safe way to accumulate power coils as you mine, for upgrading systems and turrets as you progress.
