About Configurable Quick Start

From Factorio Mod Portal

Configure the exact items that players will receive when they first spawn into the world, and separately what they receive on respawn after death. (Compatible with modded items.)

Configurable Quick Start

A Factorio mod that lets you (or a server admin) configure exactly what items players receive:

  • the first time they spawn into the world, and
  • separately, every time they respawn after dying.

Works with vanilla items and items from any other enabled mod. Configurable from "Map" settings.

Configuring

  • Grant items on first spawn - master on/off switch for the starting items.
  • Starting items - list of items to grant on first spawn.
  • Grant items on respawn - master on/off switch for respawn items.
  • Respawn items - list of items to grant on respawn after death.
  • Clear inventory before respawn items - only relevant for custom

scenarios that don't use the Freeplay scenario (see "How it works" below).

Item list format

Both item-list settings use the same simple format:

item-name:count, item-name:count, item-name:count

You can separate entries with commas, semicolons, or newlines - whichever is easiest to read. For example:

iron-plate:50
copper-plate:50
iron-gear-wheel:20
burner-mining-drill:2
stone-furnace:2
some-modded-item:5

Item names must match the internal prototype name (not the display/localized name). For vanilla items this generally matches what you'd expect (iron-plate, pistol, firearm-magazine, etc). For modded items, check the mod's data files, or in-game hover over the item and check the tooltip's internal name if you have a mod that shows it, or search the mod's page on the Factorio mod portal.

If an entry is misspelled or refers to an item from a mod that isn't installed, it is simply skipped and a warning is written to the game log - it will never crash the game.

Quality

Additionally, if you have the Quality mod installed, you can append an additional int to your items to give them a specific quality. (starting at 1) For example:

iron-plate:50:1,
copper-plate:50:3,
some-modded-item:5:5

How it works

Factorio's built-in Freeplay scenario (the default scenario used by "New Game") already exposes a remote interface for exactly this purpose: set_created_items and set_respawn_items. When Freeplay is present, this mod simply feeds your configured item lists into that interface, so:

  • Freeplay's own logic still does the actual granting (respecting its usual

timing, intro sequence, crash site behavior, etc).

  • Your configured lists replace Freeplay's default starting/respawn

items.

If you're playing a custom scenario/map that doesn't use Freeplay (so that remote interface isn't available), the mod falls back to granting items itself on the on_player_created and on_player_respawned events.
