Dark Fortress

The world has gone dark, and out of the dark they come.

Dark Fortress turns Factorio into a long co-op survival game. Every player holds their own fortress on an island in a ring around the Citadel. Between you lies land that is not yours yet. Out there, the hordes are waiting.

What awaits you

• Your own fortress: an island protected by water, with a keep around your headquarters. If it falls, your fortress is lost.
• Real co-op: neighbours share a connector island. Take it together and your fortresses grow closer.
• Hordes that adapt: waves grow with time, research and your firepower. They look for weak spots and do not always attack where you expect.
• A world worth exploring: wrecks, log books, outworks with rich resources, and things better left alone.
• Atmosphere: permanent dusk, lanterns, fog, a hellish land around the hives.
• Two endings: hold out as long as you can, or try to take the Citadel.
• Made for long sessions: a full game takes roughly 50 hours.

Details

• 1 to 8 players. Players 1 and 2 start next to each other.
• Base game only. Space Age is optional.
• Every map is generated from its seed: same seed, same map.
• Languages: English and German (follows each player's Factorio language).
• Settings: difficulty, fog, brightness, wave warnings and a horde size multiplier you can change during the game.

Compatibility

• Optional support for Explosive Biters.
• Not compatible with RampantFixed (it replaces the enemy AI).
• Other mods that change map generation or enemy behaviour may conflict.

Getting started

Enable the mod and start a new freeplay game. The map is built after the game starts, so the map preview in the "New game" screen does not show it. Read the short intro, search the wrecks near your headquarters, and get ready.

Useful commands: /dkf-intro, /dkf-info, /dkf-diag.

Deutsch: Dunkle Festung ist ein düsteres Koop-Überlebensspiel für 1 bis 8 Spieler. Jeder hält eine eigene Festung, die Horden passen sich eurer Verteidigung an. Wie lange haltet ihr stand? Oder könnt ihr die Zitadelle sogar einnehmen? Die Mod ist komplett auf Deutsch spielbar.
