Early Stack Size

Early Stack Size is a standalone logistics expansion for Factorio 2.0. It expands belt stacking up to 20, adds advanced Industrial Loaders and Industrial Containers, and provides configurable storage and item stack sizes.

Inserter Capacity Progression

Inserters are a core part of Early Stack Size:

• Bulk Inserter begins the main logistics research chain.
• Seven Inserter Capacity Bonus levels improve early-game inserter throughput.
• Stack Inserter unlocks belt stacking with an initial belt stack size of 2.
• Regular inserters begin with a capacity of 3 and can eventually carry up to 20 items per movement.
• Bulk Inserters and Stack Inserters can also reach a maximum capacity of 20.
• Inserter capacity increases alongside the 18 Transport Belt Capacity levels.
• The complete progression keeps inserters fast enough to handle fully stacked belts without creating unnecessary bottlenecks.

Belt Stacking From 2 to 20

• Stack Inserter unlocks belt stack size 2.
• Adds 18 Transport Belt Capacity research levels.
• Every level adds one additional item to each belt stack.
• The final maximum belt stack size is 20.
• Regular, Bulk, and Stack Inserters progress toward a maximum capacity of 20.
• Compatible loaders follow the researched belt stack size.
• Item-output mining drills can produce full belt stacks.
• Fluid-only mining drills and pumpjacks are not affected.
• The complete belt-stacking research path can be enabled or disabled through a startup setting.
• Planet travel is not required to complete the research path.

Industrial Loaders

Four loader tiers are available:

• Industrial Loader
• Fast Industrial Loader
• Express Industrial Loader
• Turbo Industrial Loader when Turbo Belts are available

Industrial Loaders include:

• Full support for researched belt stacks up to 20.
• Input and output support for containers and rolling stock.
• Two independent filters, with one filter for each belt lane.
• Any transportable item can be selected.
• Different items can be assigned to the two lanes.
• The same item can be assigned to both lanes.
• Leaving one lane filter empty keeps that lane closed.
• Compact 1×1 loader design.

Industrial Containers

Three container sizes are available:

• Industrial Container: 1×1
• Industrial Store Box: 2×2
• Industrial Storehouse: 6×6

Each size includes seven versions:

• Standard Container
• Filtered Container
• Passive Provider Container
• Storage Container
• Requester Container
• Buffer Container
• Active Provider Container

Basic and filtered containers unlock first. Logistic variants unlock progressively through Logistic Robotics and Logistic System research.

Configurable Storage Capacity

Seven startup settings control container capacity:

• Wooden Chest: 16 to 28 slots
• Iron Chest: 32 to 60 slots
• Steel Chest: 48 to 80 slots
• Vanilla Logistic Chests: 48 to 80 slots
• Industrial Container: 48 to 80 slots
• Industrial Store Box: 200 to 800 slots
• Industrial Storehouse: 1,000 to 3,000 slots

Configurable Item Stack Sizes

The following stack sizes can be configured from 50 to 400. The default value is 200:

• Iron Ore
• Copper Ore
• Coal
• Stone
• Uranium Ore
• The Cave Scrap, when available
• Calcite
• Tungsten Ore
• Fulgora Scrap
• Yumako
• Jellynut

Space Age resources are modified only when their item prototypes are available.

The following items have a fixed stack size of 200:

• Iron Plate
• Copper Plate
• Steel Plate
• Stone Brick

Research Balance

• Bulk Inserter costs 100 Automation and Logistic Science Packs.
• Inserter Capacity Bonus levels 1 through 7 each cost 250 Automation and Logistic Science Packs.
• Stack Inserter costs 300 Automation, Logistic, and Chemical Science Packs.
• Transport Belt Capacity levels 1 through 18 each cost 300 Automation, Logistic, and Chemical Science Packs.
• Bulk Inserter and Inserter Capacity research use 30-second research units.
• Stack Inserter and Transport Belt Capacity research use 60-second research units.
• The research progression is completely linear and does not require later planets.

Compatibility

• Designed for Factorio 2.0.
• Requires Space Age ownership because Factorio’s native belt-stacking engine is an expansion feature.
• The Space Age mod itself may be enabled or disabled.
• Space Age owners can use Early Stack Size while playing with only the Base mod enabled.
• Works with full Space Age gameplay.
• Does not depend on Train Interiors or The Cave.
• Includes English and Russian localization.

Early Stack Size is a completely independent mod and can be used with any compatible factory, logistics, loader, or container setup.
