About Nightfall (Continued)

From Factorio Mod Portal

They mostly come at night. Mostly. -- Biters in polluted areas become more aggressive at night. Includes an option to have biters only attack at night. (Community-updated for Factorio 2.0)

> "They mostly come at night. Mostly."

Nightfall makes biters more dangerous after dark. Biters in polluted areas become more aggressive at night, ramping up the pressure during the hours you can see the least — and an optional setting can make biters attack only at night.

This is a community continuation of Yehn's original Nightfall, updated for Factorio 2.0.

A Note on How This Was Made

This 2.0 update was carried out with the assistance of Claude (Anthropic AI), with Ramasees providing testing and direction. The port renamed all persistent-data references from the old global to the new storage per Factorio's 2.0 API change; no gameplay logic was altered. The unit-group / AI command APIs this mod relies on (create_unit_group, set_command, set_autonomous, on_unit_group_created, and so on) were unaffected by the 2.0 breaking changes apart from the underlying LuaUnitGroup → LuaCommandable class rename, which needs no script changes.

How It Works

Biters in polluted chunks grow more aggressive at night, forming and launching attack groups during darkness. The behaviour scales with pollution, so the more you pollute, the harsher your nights.

Setting

  • Night Attacks Only (off by default) — stops new biter attacks during daytime; biters already attacking will continue. If enabled on an existing save, it only affects newly spawned biters.

Multi-surface support is included (added in 1.1.1) — consider it lightly experimental in unusual mod combinations.
