🌊 Sea Block for Factorio 2.1

No ore. No cliffs. No oil. No ground. Just an endless ocean and a patch of sand barely big enough to stand on.

Everything you will ever build comes out of the water.

You start by filtering mud from seawater. The mud gives you slag, the slag gives you your first ores, and those ores build the machine that filters mud faster. Every plate, circuit and rocket part traces back to that loop. Even land is a manufactured good: you make landfill and push your factory out into the sea one tile at a time.

It's Bob's and Angel's mods with the ground taken away. There's no "go find a bigger patch". There's only making the process better.

🚀 Getting started

| | | |---|---| | Factorio | 2.1 (currently experimental: Steam → Properties → Betas → experimental) | | Dependencies | Bob's mods 3.0.x and Angel's mods 2.1.x (Factorio offers to install them) | | Must be disabled | Quality, Space Age, Elevated Rails |

💡 Recommended: install Sea Block Pack 2.1 instead of this mod. It pulls in the full set (reskins, FNEI, Helmod, Milestones, Science Cost Tweaker and more). It's what most people play and what this mod is tested against.

🧭 Project status

✅ Working

  • Loads cleanly on Factorio 2.1, with or without Science Cost Tweaker
  • Every recipe is reachable, every technology is researchable and every icon is valid (checked automatically on each change)
  • The early game has been played through

🚧 Not done yet

  • Cliffs aren't in map generation yet
  • No save migrations. 1.1 saves won't carry over, and saves from earlier versions of this fork may need a fresh start
  • Balance hasn't been re-tuned for the Bob's and Angel's 2.x changes
  • Not yet played to the rocket. Beyond the early game is uncharted water

🐛 Bug reports help a lot. Attaching your factorio-current.log is usually enough to find the cause.

📜 About this fork

Sea Block was created by Trainwreck and maintained by KiwiHawk. Their last portal release is 0.5.16 for Factorio 1.1. The 2.0 port stalled in a state that couldn't be installed: Bob's and Angel's had already moved to 2.1, and Factorio can't load a 2.0 mod alongside 2.1 dependencies.

This fork retargets 2.1 and fixes what that exposed, from the island not rising out of the water to military research being free. Full details are in the changelog.

It uses a different internal name because portal names belong to their original authors. In game it's still just Sea Block.

> Not affiliated with or endorsed by Trainwreck or KiwiHawk. If the official mod returns for 2.1, use that one.

❤️ Credits

Sea Block is Trainwreck's design, carried forward by KiwiHawk. This fork builds on their work and claims none of it. It's made possible by Bob's mods and Angel's mods.
