About There Be Biters: moat start, railworld+ and biter siege waves
From Factorio Mod PortalThe biters are endless and attack in overwhelming waves. Fortunately, you start on a moat but you'll need to expand soon. This mod aims to make Nauvis strategically engaging by making the biters a persistent challenge to logistics and resources.
Turns the biters into a strategic challenge throughout the campaign. They will endlessly attack your bases in massive waves and clearing them is not always practical.
Generates a moat around the starting resources to let you set up, but you'll have to venture beyond your safe haven to collect more resources and advance.
A map generator preset is created for the right amount of challenge.
Biters have been amped: faster, larger attack waves, multiply on death (optional), and scale organically with pollution.
Features (can be changed in settings):
- Moat on Nauvis start: ensures time to setup before venturing out into the danger zone.
- Map generator preset: dense and remote resource deposits, massive biter waves, fast nest expansion
- Biter swarm script: multiplies biters on death
- Flame turret tweaks: nerfs flame turrets so that a combined arms approach is necessary. Still OP but more specialised.
How to use:
- Install the mod.
- Modify the adjustable mod settings via the in-game menu. Recommended - enable the "Use TBB Map Parameters"
3.a (New game - recommended) Start a new game and select the "There Be Biters Preset" map generator. 3.b (Existing game) Load the existing save and update a TBB map setting via in-game menu - this will update the current map parameters but will not generate a moat.
Updating versions:
- Via in-game Map Settings, enable the "Use TBB Map Parameters" to update to the latest configurations. This is an opt-in to prevent updating of custom configurations.
FAQ
How to install?
Extract the zip file into your Mods folder, start a new game and select the They Be Biters Preset in the map generator.
Is this compatible with other mods?
Some parts will, others won't. The moat generation is minimal and only affects the generated terrain at the start. The map settings are part of the base game. The biter and spawner changes affect the vanilla prototypes so change to those will cause conflicts.
Will this work with an existing save?
Somewhat. The moat generation won't but everything else will.
I get desyncs in multiplayer?
Have everyone load into the game before applying any mod settings as this clears all enemy units from the map (don't worry, they come back quickly).
Can I change x?
The in game mod settings has most things you'll want to change.
Recommended mods?
Invulnerable Rails is very, very necessary Loot Chest is a kickass mod that incentivises taking out biters.
