Now you can play the hit murder mystery in 3D! GMAU is a full recreation of the popular game Among Us by InnerSloth in the Source Engine. Work with your friends to find the Imposter, or deceive them all and kill everyone!
(Yes, we know "imposter" is spelled wrong. It's intentional.)
GMAU is designed for two modes of play: playing peer-to-peer with your friends, or running full-time on a public dedicated server.
NOTE: GMAU does NOT include any maps by default! You will need to download a compatible map from the Workshop in order to play the game. A list of "official" maps can be found below (although we encourage you to make your own):
• au_skeld (The Skeld)
If you want to play GMAU with your friends, GMod has you covered. Simply start a peer-to-peer game with the gamemode selected in the bottom-right-hand corner of the menu and an appropriate map, and invite your friends to play. As the host, you'll be able to control when games start, and can modify the game's settings by pressing F1 (by default) in-game, just like Among Us.
NOTE: By default, peer-to-peer games are time limited; after 10 minutes, the crewmates will automatically win. If you wish to disable this behavior, set the "Warmup Time" to 0, or set the au_time_limit convar to 0.
If you want to run a public GMAU server, then things are a little more complicated. You will need to configure a GMod dedicated server first. Then, you will need to set up a Workshop collection and apply it to your server.
By default, GMAU runs in autopilot mode if no admins are online. If there are enough players to play a game, the gamemode will automatically start a round. Rounds are time limited by default; after 10 minutes, crewmates will automatically win, and the next round can start. If an admin is present in the server, the gamemode hands manual control of the game over to them unless the au_warmup_force_auto convar is 1.
Most settings can be changed in game by an admin or the host. However, if you would like to configure your server externally, a full list of available convars and their descriptions can be found in the gamemode's code. This is the most up-to-date list of available settings in the game. A (potentially slightly out-of-date) list is also provided below:
General settings: au_max_imposters (1-10) - The maximum number of imposters. The actual number of imposters per game is calculated using the formula (num_players - 1) / 6 + 1. au_min_players (3-128) - The minimum number of players necessary for a game to begin. au_kill_cooldown (1-60) - How long imposters must wait between kills, in seconds. au_killdistance_mod (1-3) - Multiplier for imposters' kill range. Can have decimals. au_confirm_ejects (0/1) - Should an ejected player's role be revealed? sv_alltalk (0/1) - Should players be able to talk without any restrictions? au_taskbar_updates (0-2) - When should the task bar be updated? 0 - always, 1 - during meetings, 2 - never.
Round settings: au_time_limit (0-1200) - How long until crewmates win by default, in seconds. Set to 0 to disable entirely. au_countdown (1-10) - How long the pre-round countdown lasts, in seconds.
Autopilot settings: au_warmup_force_auto (0/1) - Should autopoilot be enabled even if admins are online? au_warmup_time (0-120) - How long to wait before starting a new round, in seconds.
Meeting settings: au_meeting_cooldown (1-60) - How long players must wait before calling a meeting. au_meeting_available (1-5) - How many meetings a player can call. au_meeting_vote_time (1-90) - How long players have to vote during a meeting, in seconds. au_meeting_vote_pre_time (1-60) - How long players have to discuss events before voting, in seconds. au_meeting_vote_post_time (1-20) - How long after all votes are cast should players have to discuss? sv_meeting_anonymous (0/1) - Should the player votes be anonymous?
Task settings: au_tasks_short (0-5) - How many short tasks to give each player. au_tasks_long (0-5) - How many long tasks to give each player. au_tasks_common (0-5) - How many common tasks to give to all players. au_tasks_enable_visual (0/1) - Should tasks produce visual effects?
Debugging settings: (Only use these if you know what you're doing.) au_debug_bot_tasks (0/1) - Should bots be assigned tasks? au_debug_bot_vote (0/1) - Should bots cast votes in meetings?
