Combine AI+ — Combine AI Enhancement
Made by DSH and me (DSH handled most of the code; I only modified a small part and the test code) Make the Combine actually feel like an opponent.
This addon adds freely adjustable AI enhancements to the Combine and Combine heavy units in Garry's Mod. All 87 parameters are exposed as sliders in the settings panel.
The design principle is to avoid reimplementing what the engine already has as much as possible: grenades, AR2 energy balls, are all left to the engine's vanilla routines. The addon only supplements what vanilla truly lacks (such as the Strider's patrol AI) — so performance overhead is very low.
Open Spawnmenu → Utilities → Combine AI+ → Combine Settings to adjust in real time.

Infantry Enhancements
- []Adjustable accuracy: from "can't hit anything" to "pinpoint", with a separate moving-fire accuracy slider
- []Moving Fire toggle: in vanilla, Combine must stop to shoot; when enabled, they can shoot while moving
- []Grenades: frequency and usage chance are both adjustable
- []Tactical behavior: shotgunners push to the front, seek cover while reloading, and investigate nearby hostile gunfire
- []Squad coordination: when one spots an enemy, nearby allies immediately share the visual target
- []Suppression response: bullets whizzing past make them take cover or fall back
- []Stat boosts: independent multipliers for damage, fire rate, and health
- []Ballistics and spread: accuracy, error multiplier, and shotgun spread cone angle are separately adjustable
Heavy Units
- Helicopters, gunships, dropships, Hunters, turrets, etc. each have independent damage multipliers
Strider (Behavior Completely Absent in Vanilla)
Vanilla GMod Striders have no patrol AI; they just stand in place when there are no enemies. This addon adds it:
- []Patrol: wanders around nearby when there are no enemies. Uses the engine's native pathfinding and steers around obstacles on its own
- []Wall Vaulting: vaults over walls when a taller wall blocks its path (stairs are automatically excluded and left for the engine to step over)
- []Crouch Sweep: when the target hides in a room or behind cover and cannot be hit while standing, it lowers its body to gain a firing line
- []Warp Cannon: the laser cannon beneath its body. Charge-up wind-up with particles contracting toward the muzzle, a cold-blue energy beam, and on impact, spatial collapse + AR2 energy ball ripple. Cooldown, damage, splash radius, and facing requirements are all adjustable

Features
- []Low performance overhead: decision loop defaults to 2 Hz (adjustable 0.2–2 seconds), patrol steering at 10 Hz, and it only runs when there are units to process. There is also a safeguard to "process at most N NPCs per tick." With the master switch off, it has completely zero overhead
- []Real-time adjustment: all parameters can be changed in-game without reloading
- []Vanilla-friendly: the panel provides a one-click "Vanilla" preset so you can compare the effects at any time
- []Complete troubleshooting commands: enter cai_help in the console to view all diagnostic commands

Known Limitations
- []The Strider's Warp Cannon is reimplemented in Lua: the vanilla cannon is implemented internally in the engine's C++, and GMod has no interface to trigger it. Damage, splash, and audio/visuals are tuned to match the vanilla feel, while the frequency is controlled by this addon
- []Sounds and materials come from the resources actually present in your installation, so the look and feel may vary slightly between setups
After subscribing, just enter the game and it's ready to use. The default difficulty is "Standard".
Enter cai_help in the console to view all commands; cai_strider shows the Strider's patrol and firing status.
