# SCP-409 — The Crystallizing Plague

SCP-409 is a slow and deadly crystalline infection that begins subtly before gradually transforming its host into a mass of crystal.

Players, NPCs, and NextBots have a 15-second incubation period after infection, during which no symptoms are visible. Once the infection takes hold, crystals begin forming at the point of contact and progressively spread throughout the host.

As the infection advances, frost gradually appears around the edges of the screen, vision becomes increasingly blurred, health steadily decreases, and movement becomes more difficult. Each infection has a randomized fatal time between **4 and 8 minutes**, making every infection unpredictable.

## Features - Contact-based infection — Infection occurs through physical contact. - Progressive crystallization — A cluster of crystals with varying sizes forms at the infection site before spreading across the host. - Wide compatibility — Infects players, NPCs, and NextBots. - Escalating symptoms — Frost, blurred vision, health loss, and movement impairment intensify as the infection progresses. - Crystalline death — When an infected host dies after crystallization has begun, it produces a glass-shattering sound, briefly bursts into crystal debris, and leaves behind an environmental crystal. - Persistent environmental crystals — Environmental crystals can infect other entities through physical contact and remain in the environment until destroyed or the map changes. - Destructible crystals — Environmental crystals can be shot apart.
