Skyrim's dragons, as real NPCs
Not a ragdoll, not a statue: the whole dragon, fighting like it does in Skyrim. Every dragon from the original game is here, with its own model, skeleton, all 172 animations, textures and sounds.
The dragons
- Dragon
- Frost Dragon (breathes frost)
- Blood Dragon, Elder Dragon, Ancient Dragon (fire or frost, picked when it spawns, as in Skyrim)
- Red Dragon
- Alduin, the World-Eater: the boss, tougher and harder-hitting
You'll find them in the NPC tab under Dragons.
How they fight
- It spots you, roars and takes off.
- In the air it makes passes breathing fire or frost, hovers to breathe or spit fireballs, then lands near you.
- On the ground it bites what's in front of it, swipes a wing at what's beside it and whips its tail at what's behind it, then takes off again.
- Hurt to half health while flying, it crashes and fights on the ground from then on.
- Killed, it falls out of the sky, lies there for a while and fades.
- Its feet stay on the ground on slopes and rocks, and its animations blend smoothly.
- Shots hit where they land: wings, tail, head.
It stays home
Where you place a dragon is its home. It only chases people near its home (5000 units). Lead it farther away and it gives up and flies back, so a dragon by a dungeon never wanders into town.
For map makers and gamemodes
- Works in any gamemode. Dragons like each other and hate everyone else, unless the gamemode says otherwise (AddRelationship / AddEntityRelationship).
- Key values: kind (dragon, frost, blood, elder, ancient, red), breath (fire, frost, random), flies (0 keeps it on the ground, e.g. in a cave), chaserange (0 = follows anywhere).
- ConVars: dragon_npc_flying 0 keeps all dragons on the ground, dragon_npc_corpse_time (seconds, default 120).
- SetModelScale works: bigger dragons reach farther and fly faster.
- Killing one calls OnNPCKilled. Frost breath calls the hook DragonNPCFrostBreath( dragon, victim ) for addons with their own cold effect.
The models, textures, animations and sounds are Bethesda's, from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011), converted for Garry's Mod.
