Notes

Some NPCs may not respond correctly depending on how they are coded NPCs that override their movement systems or use custom AI may ignore the detection system entirely

NPCs require a valid NavMesh to pathfind toward players NPCs on maps without a NavMesh may fail to move correctly

All settings can be found in: Q Menu → Utilities → VChat → VChat Settings

Voice Chat Reminder

VChat detects Garry's Mod voice chat You must use GMod's voice chat key (default X) while speaking for VChat to detect your voice

VChat does not automatically listen to your microphone or detect voice that isn't being transmitted through GMod's voice chat

Don't want to hold voice chat key every time?

I recommend using the Toggle Voice Chat mod to make voice chat easier to use

VChat Update - October 18 2026

This update does not have a version number or code name

• Improved voice volume scaling

• Loud speech carries farther, with a wall still reducing its range

• Tuned wall muffling so one wall muffles voice without making it inaudible

• Lowered the voice detection threshold to help detect whispers

• Added a small release buffer to reduce voice detection flickering
