Custom Equipable Vest V2

Survivors no longer have to take every Infected attack with their bare bodies!

Custom Equipable Vest adds six types of wearable armor and tactical equipment to Left 4 Dead 2.

Find armors or armor boxes, inspect their stats, and equip them for protection, ammunition storage, or additional throwable capacity.

You may also use this mod as a base package to create new armors following the tutorial in the discussion section below. The tutorial covers both simple and advanced methods. The advanced method requires the APIs provided by this mod; for now, I have only finished writing the simple part.

Controls

 • Right Click - Inspect an armor box
 • E / Shift - Equip armor
 • !armor - View armor stats and stored throwable
 • !armoroff - Remove and drop armor
 • !armorswap - Swap held and stored throwables

Replacing armor drops the previous equipment while preserving its durability and stored items.

Armor Models

V2.0 includes six custom armor models.

 • Armor follows Survivor movement and orientation.
 • Supports first-person display with Lux Survivor Legs.
 • Independent first-person and third-person positioning.
 • Per-model scale and offset customization.
 • Automatic response to Survivor model scale changes.

you can choose if the custom model is used in the config file.

Lux Survivor Legs is optional and not included.

Multiplayer Compatibility

Custom armor visuals can automatically switch to default armor boxes when additional human players join.

This helps reduce missing-model ERROR issues for players without the required model resources.

Armor functionality remains active when custom visuals are disabled.

Extra Throwable System

All three chest rigs provide one additional throwable slot.

 • Supports Molotovs, Pipe Bombs, and Bile Jars.
 • Picking up another throwable can store the current one.
 • Stored throwables automatically refill the active slot after use.
 • Use !armorswap to exchange throwables.
 • Removing the rig drops stored equipment.

Armor Protection

Protection depends on durability, body coverage, and penetration resistance.

Actual damage reduction may be lower than the listed base value.

Tank and Witch attacks have high penetration by default. Heavy armor may prevent otherwise lethal damage.

Friendly-fire damage follows live difficulty ConVars.

Armored Infected

Infected may rarely spawn wearing armor.

Attacking unprotected areas is more effective.

Aim for the legs, especially with SMGs and shotguns.

Armored Infected can briefly glow when hit.

Default glow color: 000000 Default duration: 0.1s

Movement System

Armor reduces movement speed according to its weight.

An optional weapon weight system modifies Run, Walk, and Crouch speeds.

Disabled by default.

Enable:

weapon_weight_enable=1
Configuration:
ems/custom_armor_system/armor_config.txt

Survivor Bots

Bots can collect and equip armor.

Bots with armor at 30% durability or less may search for replacements.

Persistence & Configuration

Armor, durability, and stored throwables persist across normal chapter transitions.

Equipment is reset after a full team wipe and restart.

Main configuration:

ems/custom_armor_system/
Armor model settings:
model_config/

Individual Survivor model scaling:

character_scale.txt
Individual Survivor model offsets:
model_offset.txt

Changes can be reloaded through VScript.
