About Chao Garden Mod

From Modrinth

Hatch, raise and evolve your own Chao on a private island garden. Every Chao has its own personality, moods, skills and DNA, and grows into whatever you raise it to be.

Chao Garden

🥚 Hatch them. Raise them. Watch them become yours.

Chao Garden brings the much-loved Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2 into Minecraft, then goes further. It mixes in the virtual-pet spirit of Tamagotchi and the Digimon Digivice, so every Chao has its own personality, moods, appetite and memories. **Each one grows and changes based on how you treat it.**

No two Chao ever turn out the same.

🌴 Your Own Private Garden

  • ⛏️ Mine Chao Ore underground, smelt it into Chao Bars, and craft a Chao Key.
  • 🧱 Build a sandstone portal frame (any sandstone and any size, just like a Nether portal) and unlock it with your key.
  • 🏝️ Step through to the Chao Garden: a peaceful ocean world where every player gets their own private island. Every portal you build, wherever it is, always leads home to the same island.
  • ☮️ No hostile mobs. Just you, your Chao, and the sound of the waves.

🐣 Hatch & Raise

  • Find eggs, buy them from high-level villagers, or breed your own. Eggs hatch inside the Garden.
  • Name your Chao to become its parent. It bonds with the players who care for it most.
  • Keep an eye on its belly, from Starving to Stuffed. Feed it by hand, or let it wander over to fallen Garden Fruit and a stocked Feeding Box on its own.
  • Every Chao has a secret favourite food. Find it for an extra boost of friendship 💕
  • Its mood changes from Happy to Upset depending on how its day is going. Pet it, play with it, and never leave it hungry.

💪 Train Your Chao

Level up Swim, Fly, Run, Power and Stamina all the way to 99 by feeding it the right things: fish for swimming, feathers for flight, boots and carrots for running, weapons and ore for power, food and beds for stamina.

Skills change how your Chao behaves, not just its numbers:

  • 🐛 Young Chao crawl. Train Run and they stand up and walk.
  • 🏊 Train Swim and they paddle laps and dive around the island.
  • 🕊️ Train Fly and they take flight, glide around the island and flutter down safely.

On top of that, Chao learn Crafting and Building just by watching you and doing the work.

😇 Hero or 😈 Dark: Evolution

Kindness pulls a Chao toward Hero. Roughness pulls it toward Dark. Raise one consistently and it starts to sparkle with its alignment. Once it's grown up, it evolves.

The skill you trained most decides what kind of Hero or Dark Chao it becomes. A Power-trained Chao grows big fists, and a Swim-trained one grows fins. Every choice you make along the way shapes the Chao you end up with.

Evolutions

🧬 DNA Transformations

Minecraft's mobs drop DNA. Feed it to your Chao and it trains them up, and eat enough of one kind and your Chao transforms: Creeper, Cow, Pig, Wolf, Ocelot, Panda, Axolotl, Bee, Fox, Mooshroom, Allay, even the Ender Dragon… plus a few rare surprises you'll have to discover yourself 👀

New forms are added regularly, so there's always something new to collect.

DNA Forms

✨ Real Personalities

  • Every Chao rolls its own personality traits for life. Some speed up certain skills, others hold them back, and a lucky few get rare traits.
  • Left to themselves, Chao fidget: they stretch, yawn, wave, dance, clap and gaze at the sky. Many traits come with their own quirks. Clumsy Chao trip over, Rowdy ones play air guitar, and Jumpy ones get the hiccups.
  • Rare traits get showpiece animations with sparkles and sound: flaming leaps, time stops, vanishing acts, loop-the-loops…
  • At night, Chao look for a bed (or curl up on the grass in one of many sleepy poses), and they run for shelter when it rains.

💞 Breeding & Genetics

When a grown Chao is ready, it'll look for a mate, and you pick who. Babies inherit:

  • A blend of their parents' colours
  • A chance at their parents' traits and favourite food
  • A head start in skills their parents worked hard on
  • Hidden recessive genes that can skip generations and resurface later

Follow it all in the Family Tree and a Friends list that shows who your Chao gets along with.

🛠️ Chao That Work For You

  • Crafting: set a Chao to follow you, craft something, and it remembers the recipe. Give it a Chao Crafting Table with an input and an output chest and it will craft that item for you all day. Craft an item enough times and it starts coming out with bonus enchantments.
  • Building: drop a .json or .schem build plan into the config folder, pick a spot, and your Chao builds it for you, block by block, for free.

🖥️ The Caretaker's Toolkit

  • Chao PC: store your Chao and withdraw them from any PC, anywhere. Search, tag, favourite and compare your whole collection.
  • Wi-Fi Router + Chao Shop: connect a PC to the internet and buy eggs, DNA, rare Garden Tree saplings and more with emeralds. Stock changes daily.
  • Chao Crystal Scanner: see exact colours, social style, secret favourite foods, DNA progress and the hidden genes a Chao carries.
  • Feeding Box: keep a food supply topped up so your Chao can feed themselves (it works with hoppers too).
  • How-To-Chao: a full in-game guide that explains every mechanic.

🎒 Take Them Everywhere

  • Carry your Chao on your back. It rides along in a backpack, wheeee pose or doze, even through portals.
  • Set it to Follow and it trots (or swims, or flies!) after you, lining up single-file with your other Chao.
  • Lock your Chao so other players can't feed, rename or take it.
  • Chao never truly die. A fallen Chao is reborn as a child, keeping its memories, traits and bond with you.
