About Offgrid

From Modrinth

Place blocks how you think they should be placed, off the grid! Multiparts, mixed slabs, windowlogging, and many other features included.

Offgrid introduces a way to place blocks where they make sense. Multiple blocks in one space or aligning with the grid are no longer building limitations. Simply put, certain blocks will now be allowed to place inside other blocks when they have enough space, or moved so they can align with a surface.

Offgrid introduces several other changes:

  • Item Frames and Paintings can be placed on any fitting surface, regardless of the grid.
  • Different slab types can be placed together in the same space, functioning as separate blocks.
  • Certain blocks can be logged inside other blocks, like Chains, Fences, Walls, or windowlogging with Glass Panes.
  • Snow and Carpets can also be logged in many more blocks.

The mod stays vanilla-friendly. There is no pixel-perfect placement, no extra keybinds, and no hindrance to your user experience. It aims to stay as seamless as possible, with all interactions on blocks working as you'd expect.

There are some new tags:

  • offgrid:can_offset, blocks that can be offset from their regular position to align with a surface
  • offgrid:can_overlay, blocks that can be placed with other blocks when they have space, every block is also included in can_offset
  • offgrid:facing_attaching, blocks that attach to walls in the opposite direction their facing blockstate points, such as wall torches.
  • offgrid:can_blocklog, blocks that can be placed inside other blocks but are cut off like Chains, Fences, Walls, or Glass Panes.
  • offgrid:blockloggable, blocks that can have can_blocklog inside, like Slabs and Stairs.
  • offgrid:layers, blocks that can be placed inside pretty much any non-full block, such as Snow and Carpets.
  • offgrid:surface_attaching, entities that can be put on any surface, such as Paintings or Item Frames.

Compatibility is not forgotten in Offgrid. The mod works with pistons, block ticking, structures, Sodium, Sable sublevels, Create contraptions, and many modded entries are added to the tags. You can add any entries of your own to these and it'll work with no extra setup. Feel free to suggest mod compatibility entries in the discord or issue tracker.
