About ParcoolXSable

From Modrinth

Parkour from ParCool on Sable physics ships from Create: Aeronautics. Wall runs, ledge grabs and vaults on hulls, including sloped and banking ones.

Free use in modpacks is permitted. ParCool x Sable

Airships from Create: Aeronautics are the best parkour surface in the game that you can't actually use. Run at a hull and ParCool does nothing at all. No wall run, no ledge to grab, no vault. The ship may as well not be there.

Now it works. ParCool 3.4.x and ParCool 4.0.x, one jar.

> ParCool 4 is still an alpha and is a rewrite, so its internals move between > builds. This is built against 4.0.0.2. Hooks that stop matching simply do not > apply, so a later alpha loses features rather than breaking the game.

Why it didn't

Sable doesn't put a ship's blocks in the world. It parks them as ordinary chunks in a hidden area far off the map and only draws them at the ship's position. So ParCool asks the world what's next to you, and the world answers "air" -- truthfully, because there really is nothing there.

This mod answers those questions against the ship's real blocks instead.

What you get

Every wall action. Horizontal and vertical wall run, wall jump, wall slide.

Ledges. Cling to a deck edge, climb up over it, vault a railing.

Rigging. Hang from beams, end rods, fences and walls. Climb a mast or a chain.

Sloped and curved hulls, from any approach angle, on a ship that is banking or pitching. Boxes that are square to the world are compared to the hull with a separating-axis test rather than the usual axis-aligned shortcut -- the box drawn around a rotated box is up to 70% fatter at a 45 degree bank, and a fatter probe reads clear air as solid.

A character that stands with the ship. During parkour the model and its animations are turned to the hull -- the up is whichever side of the ship faces the sky, and horizontally the model settles onto the ship's own grid, so climbing a turned or flipped build looks like climbing a build, not a glitch. A ship that yaws underfoot turns you with it, look and all. Off the parkour, you stand like everyone else. Config: alignToShip.

The right surface underfoot. Particles come from the block you're actually touching, and on ParCool 3 so does friction, so ice on a deck is slippery.

Moving ships. Grip a ledge on something that flies off and you go with it.

A grip assist on ParCool 3, for hulls that aren't flat walls. ParCool wants a block face at chest height with clear air above it, and hulls are rarely that, so when its own check comes up empty the mod sweeps sixteen directions around you and grabs whatever edge is really there. It reaches further than ParCool does, which is the point, so it also lets go once you're moving away from the hull -- a jump off a deck isn't caught on the way out.

It stays out of the way

With no ship nearby the mod does nothing at all -- on the ground ParCool behaves exactly as it does without it installed, and a real world wall always wins over a ship one.

Hooks are MixinExtras, which stack with other mods' handlers instead of fighting them. ParCool+ / Compatibility Addon by semillakan6 patches some of the same ParCool 3 methods; the two use different injection points and coexist, and its Sable support is gated to ParCool 3, so on ParCool 4 there is nothing to overlap with at all. If ParCool moves something in a future version, this goes inert rather than crashing the game.

Create's super glue and honey are untouched. The mod only reads blocks; the one thing it ever writes is your own velocity while you're hanging.

Config

config/parcoolxsable-common.toml

| Option | Default | Meaning | |---|---|---| | enabled | true | Off switch | | searchMargin | 1.5 | How far around you to look for a ship, in blocks | | fixBlockLookups | true | Read particles, and friction on ParCool 3, from ship blocks | | carryWhileAttached | true | Move with the ship while clinging or hanging | | carryWhileOnWall | false | Same while wall running -- on if you lag behind a fast ship | | gripAssist | true | ParCool 3: grab sloped and curved hulls, not just flat walls | | gripReach | 0.8 | ParCool 3: how far ahead to look for a ledge | | slopeTolerance | 0.45 | ParCool 3: extra reach for one half of the body on sloped plating | | releaseSpeed | 0.25 | ParCool 3: how fast you leave a hull before the assist lets go |

Known issues

  • ParCool's bar-hanging only knows world X and Z. Ship blocks are turned into

world orientation first, so a ship yawed by a right angle is handled correctly; one at 45 degrees snaps to whichever axis is closer.

  • The grip assist options do nothing on ParCool 4, which uses ParCool's own reach.

Credits

This mod is glue between two other people's work:

  • ParCool! by alRex-U -- the parkour itself
  • Sable by ryanhcode -- the ship physics, plus

Sable Companion, the compatibility API that made this possible without touching Sable's internals

Requirements

ParCool and Sable. With either missing the mod disables itself quietly.

What the page still needs

Text can only carry a page like this so far. Three captures would do more than any rewrite:

  1. A GIF of a wall run along a moving hull. This is the headline. Five or six

seconds, ship in flight, camera in third person so the animation reads.

  1. A ledge grab on a banked hull -- the moment the whole grip assist exists

for. Ideally with the ship visibly tilted.

  1. A still of a big ship with the player mid-parkour, for the gallery

thumbnail.
