Antarctica Training Range
The Offworld Development Authority maintains a training range in Antarctica where a trainee can learn the basics of outpost construction, in a 100% safe environment*. Water ice is of course abundant on the surface but with the Offworld Development Agency's patented 'Advanced Geoengineering' technology we have generously seeded the training range with ices typically only found in space, and a range of metal ores.
* personal safety percentage is illustrative only and not guaranteed
The ODA has engineered this region to be rich in the materials a Stationeer will typically need to set up an outpost, including deep vein deposits of many ores and surface level deposits of all ores and ices.
There are currently two possible start areas:
Antarctica Training Station
The team from Expedition 1 were withdrawn due to performance issues but they began building a base. ODA doesn't believe in wasting resources so Expedtion 2 (that's you!) will undertake training by completing the outpost.
You will need to complete construction work on the shell to make it airtight and heat it up for plant growth. You may need to repair some minor damage caused by careless recruits in Expedition 1 who have been reassigned to administrative duties.
In addition to the parts needed to complete the base and your basic survival equipment, the ODA has also dropped a standard issue cargo lander from orbit. You are free to utilise any or all of the equipment on this to prolong your survival prior to self-sufficiency, or to expand the base.
However, note that these are not required to establish self-sufficiency and at your final evalulation extra credit may be awarded to trainees who do not utilise these resources.
Training Range Outfield
Away from the main training zone, this location allows Stationeers to practice a fresh start with no pre-built structures whilst still benefitting from a benign climate and breathable air, along with high availability of ores and ices.
In this location you will need to use the supply lander we've dropped from orbit with a standard set of starting supplies. This mission represents your final evaluation before you are assigned offworld and the objective is to achieve self-sufficiency before your starting supplies run out.
You are free to expand your outpost as you see fit but please remember that all construction remains the property of ODA and will be put to whatever use the ODA deems reasonable after you are assigned offworld.
Coming Soon...
I am working on a full set of tutorial prompts to help new players to learn the basics whilst fixing up the base, but this is a major project and will take some time to complete.
