Crematoria B
When the first Stationeer scanned this planet, they witnessed massive temperature swings and brief periods around dawn and dusk when the atmosphere became breathable. It reminded them of a movie, and as a nod to The Chronicles of Riddick, they named the world Crematoria B.
This world can be brutal, but its unique mixture of gases and extreme temperature swings make it an engineer's dream, allowing creative Stationeers to devise a variety of solutions to almost any problem.
You hitched a ride aboard a deep-space survey vessel with limited room for equipment. What you managed to bring should be just enough to get started—and to make your mark as the first Stationeer to attempt to tame this world.
Good luck, brave Stationeer!
About the World
Crematoria B orbits Avernus, a black hole that dominates the sky and gives the world its ominous appearance.
The atmosphere at peak heat is composed of approximately:
- 74.57% nitrogen - 24.88% oxygen - 0.303% ozone - 0.228% silanol - 0.020% helium
Daytime temperatures can climb toward 750 °C, while the night can fall to roughly −150 °C. Around dawn and dusk, the temperature and oxygen pressure briefly pass through a breathable range. Learning when and how to exploit that window is part of the challenge.
The Challenge
- Survive a temperature swing of approximately 900 °C. - Capture hot daytime gas and use the freezing night air to power a Stirling engine. - Use a furnace instead of relying on a starting arc furnace. - Design structures and atmospheric systems that can tolerate major temperature and pressure changes. - Exploit the short breathable periods around dawn and dusk. - Carefully manage suit oxygen, cooling, and battery power while working outside.
Storms
Crematoria B experiences two kinds of storms:
1. Dust Storms bring high winds and limited visibility. Harness the wind to supplement your power, but be mindful that these storms can damage exposed equipment. 2. Solar Storms increase solar irradiance, cooling requirements, and visual interference. Their greatest danger is the intense heat, which raises atmospheric pressure beyond the tolerance of many standard building materials (up to approximately 436 kPa).
Start Options
Standard
- Humans receive six spare oxygen canisters. - Zrilians receive six spare methane canisters. - Robots receive no breathing-gas canisters.
Brutal start has the following personal inventory changes from the Standard start:
- Four spare breathing-gas canisters. - The jetpack has no propellant canister. - No mining belt or powered mining drill. - No angle grinder. - A pickaxe carried in the tool belt. - A powered ore detector.
Plus a few changes to the crate inventory, refer to the on screen list when creating a new start.
Resource Distribution
- Coal is unavailable through hand mining but remains available through deep mining.
Crematoria B is a standalone world mod and does not require any other mods.
