Overpressure Valve

Passive relief valves for gas and liquid pipes. They open without power and without logic the moment the line crosses a fixed threshold - pressure for gas, fill level for liquid - and close again once it drops.

When a furnace runs away or a pump keeps feeding a dead-ended line, the pipe bursts. A back pressure regulator would stop that - but it needs power, and when things go wrong the grid is usually the first thing to die. These valves are purely mechanical. They work anyway.

What you get

Four kits, built at the Pipe Bender.

Two of them carry fixed steps: you pick a threshold while placing the valve, cycling through the steps the same way you cycle pipe or wall variants. Nothing to turn, nothing to wire, and the setting is locked in once it is built. Each step wears its colour on the bonnet, so you can read a whole pipe run at a glance.

Two of them are the Smart valves: one part with an adjusting screw, set with a Labeller after building, and the value survives saving and multiplayer.

Gas is governed by pressure, liquid by how full the line is. A liquid pipe does not burst from holding many litres - it bursts when there is no room left.

Kit (Smart Overpressure Valve) - for gas pipes One adjustable valve instead of nine fixed steps. Built at 30 MPa, set anywhere from 1 kPa to 60 MPa with a Labeller. It carries its own housing: spring cage between four posts, bonnet and adjusting screw. The bonnet lifts and the spring compresses while it is relieving, so you can see it working from across the room.

Kit (Smart Liquid Overpressure Valve) - for liquid pipes The same valve for liquid. Here the screw sets a percentage, and that one number drives both criteria: 50 % means the line is half full or at half the burst pressure - 3 MPa of the 6.08 MPa limit. Whichever comes first opens the valve.

How they work

• Input and output are both pipe connections. Vent to a dump tank, a safety volume, or outside through an active vent - your call, and you can recover the gas.
• The output side must sit at a lower pressure than the input. There is nothing to vent into otherwise, and the valve stays shut even far above its threshold.
• The valve opens at its threshold, then blows down to roughly 97 % of it before closing. No chatter, and it does not dump the whole line. Configurable.
• Flow per tick is capped, so a big enough furnace can still outrun a single valve. The cap is configurable in the BepInEx config.
• No power. No data cable. No logic.

Compatibility

This requires BepInEx and StationeersLaunchPad: github.com/StationeersLaunchPad/StationeersLaunchPad

• Code mod: ships a plugin DLL loaded by StationeersLaunchPad (BepInEx). Not a pure data mod; LaunchPad is required.
• No base game files or prefabs are modified. The kits are clones, the vanilla pipe valve kits stay untouched.
• Multiplayer: the mod registers new prefabs, so install it on the server and on every client.
