Ever wondered what it would feel like to survive in a ultra-dense urban map in Unturned? Now you can!
This is a map is set in Montreal, QC and its surrounding south shore regions, 15 days after the initial outbreak that devastated the city and its surroundings. ________________________ NOTE: For those who think this is dead, it is not. It takes a lot of time to build Montreal City, and I just don't have a lot of time to dedicate into this project. I just want to make sure everything is good before I publish version 0.6, as I noticed that people who download this map have corrupted "Objects" file, which either removes them or makes them float in the air. I am fixing this problem too, and it takes more of my time. But don't worry, Late October is still the target Beta Release date. ________________________ With a population of 3 Million, the chaos was endless. The Canadian Airborne Forces and the RCMP were immediately dispatched to the Champlain Bridge to stop the outbreak, but it was too late. Longueuil was in chaos and the infection was spreading to Brossard. By day 5, the entire region was overtaken despite the great efforts from the authorities. Montreal, the second biggest city of Canada, was lost. Remaining survivors went up north to Quebec, where the infection was contained (not for long though).
I started working on this months ago, since I did not have a lot of time, it is only these days that I made major progress.
When completed, this should (probably) be the map with the most content and biggest number of objects in the entire workshop.
Q&A
(Interview-style)
Where is this map set in? -Montreal City, and the metro region surrounding the island (south shore only). It is located in Quebec, a province of Canada.
Is the map playable? -Not right now, as there is NO spawns, but it will be when the beta version is released.
Why the download does not work? -The map currently is unplayable.
What will be in the map? -I will try to add as much content as possible (a.k.a. the entire region and all landmarks), and I also try to be as accurate as possible. But 100% accuracy is impossible if I want to make an enjoyable and fun map. Also due to size constraints and balancing issues, Brossard, Longueuil (and all other cities) are all smaller than in real life.
How accurate is the map? -As said before, this map will be as accurate as possible, while not compromising the gameplay. As the famous game director Todd Howard said : "Great games are played, not made." An accurate map isn't necessarily a fun map. But the reverse can be true! An fun map can be accurate! Even if you agree or not, I think that walking for 30 minutes to get from one city to another or driving 30 minutes just to refuel at the nearest gas station IS NOT fun. That is why this map has everything scaled down. But don't worry, most of the important landmarks are there! I also made extra precautions to maintain the feeling of scale in my map. Nothing should feel cramped or too open when finished.
Why isn't the map Large or even (like most accurate maps) Insane in size? -Just as the same reason stated before, walking for 30 minutes in the empty woods is not fun. Driving for 30 minutes on clear roads is not fun. Shooting zombies and discovering urban zones is, and just like how Rome wasn't built in a day, Large/Insane-sized maps of this scale (Urban) will take years, if not decades. A real city is built in many centuries of hard work. One man (myself) isn't enough to make one in a reasonable amount of time.
Your map isn't accurate then... -That isn't even a question. Anyway, I prioritise enjoyment over absolute accuracy. If you dislike that, try to make a map yourself! See how it is hard to make an Large/Insane Urban map. I give you this challenge, if you are capable, you win.
What do I win? -Ugh... At least it is a question. What you win? You win the argument.
Anyway, what are those "landmarks" mentioned before? -Well, popular tourist locations or symbolic locations, such as the Biodome, Insectarium, Mount Royal Park, Old Port, etc.
Why isn't Laval, northern and western Montreal included? -Just making the south shore takes considerable amounts of work as it is an urban map with a lot of content. (I mean A LOT, the map will be full, sparing only the parks) Making a large urban map would take months or even years.
What is already in the map? -The three main bridges (Champlain, Jacques-Cartier and Victoria), Highways connecting the cities, Longueuil and Brossard. (there is no spawns in Longueuil and Brossard as of now)
When will the map be released? -There is no ETA for now, as I am not working on this full time, but I can approximatively say that the release date of the Early Beta in a playable state should be in October 2015. I am currently testing the map myself and with friends.
