Leylines

Configurable mystical platforms, connected by a network of ethereal leylines, allowing for rapid travel about the world - so long as you know the appropriate keyword for your destination! These leylines were initially showcased on the Tyrenheim server.

Basic Operation

The goal of leylines was twofold: + To allow fast travel around the map, but in a way which knowledge is required. Admins / quest masters might disseminate leyline keys in a controlled fashion, to maintain mystery, or guilds may keep their important leyline keys secret, etc.

+ To prevent the proliferation of 'portal hubs', by instead having leyline platforms which can reach multiple destinations, so long as the appropriate key is known. Server admins may grant a leyline to each player (perhaps as a quest reward), or have local leylines near to a village, for them to use.

Usage of leylines follows the existing rules of teleportability as for standard portals (except for admins). Again, this may become optional in future.

Building / Placement

The recipe for a leyline platform requires a Leyline Shard - an item which exists solely for this purpose. Admins can choose how these might be handed out (one per player, or as a quest reward, etc..)

Leylines can be placed by players, but cannot be un-placed without admin help. This is intentional, to avoid players having a leyline-in-a-pocket and moving it around the world. Rather, these leylines might be placed about the world at points of interest, to be discovered, and players might be granted a single one in their base, replacing the 'portal room' that many players end up with.

Similarly, only admins can enable and assign a keyword to a leyline, to verify sensible placement, and have some measure of control of leyline keywords, if server theme demands.

If enough people request it, these aspects might become optional.

Admin utilities

Administrators (when in god mode) can set the key of a leyline, in much the same way as changing the tag of a portal. This is unavailable to players, with the intention that it is more-or-less permanent, without admin support. This may become optional in future.

Admins have console commands available: leylines - to list the leylines in the world and their status leyline_tp <key> - to jump immediately to the specified leyline
