About balrond Absolute Overhaul

From Thunderstore

A total overhaul adding new systems/features and over 2000 new objects + changes to all vanilla objects

Balrond Absolute Overhaul — BETA

Rediscover Valheim through deeper progression, Alchemy, equipment, production and a world worth exploring.

Balrond Absolute Overhaul (BAO) changes how you progress through Valheim. The first boss is no longer just a stepping stone to a new pickaxe: boss materials, upgraded workstations and crafted Bundles lead you into entire branches of construction, metalworking and magic. Resources have new purposes, production has more stages, and preparing for a biome means more than equipping the next weapon.

This is a large, interconnected gameplay and content overhaul, not a collection of unrelated item additions. Expect familiar Valheim locations and materials to work differently, with new things to discover from Meadows to Deep North.

> BETA — your feedback matters. New version is being prepared and tested. BAO is not yet a fully validated stable release. Back up your world and characters before updating, and use a separate profile if you want to experiment safely. Some features can still have balance issues, missing content or multiplayer problems. Report issues and share feedback on Balrond's Den.

What changes in your game?

  • A redesigned journey through crafting and boss progression. Workstations have specialized roles and meaningful upgrade paths. Unlock a new workshop by making its Bundle at the correct station level; placing the building is only the final step.
  • More materials worth gathering. Discover additional ores, alloys, scraps, herbs, plants, magical reagents and biome resources. Previously familiar materials become parts of longer crafting and processing chains.
  • Production that feels like an industry. Use dedicated stations for metalworking, scrap recovery, food preparation, brewing, distilling, pressing oils and aging products. A material may need several stages before becoming useful equipment or a consumable.
  • An Alchemy system to learn and master. Research reagent properties, choose a carrier and catalyst, experiment with combinations, and prepare potions, elixirs, tonics, flasks and weapon oils. More powerful mixtures demand better tools and progression.
  • Equipment with more identity. Discover new weapons, armor, shields, belts, rings and accessories. Armor classes, equipment tiers and the Forge of Potential introduce further choices beyond ordinary quality upgrades.
  • A harsher but more manageable survival experience. Wounds and conditions such as Scorched, Chilled, Enfeebled, Lacerated, Punctured, Bleeding and Sick change how you fight and recover. Food, rest, First Aid and weather protection matter.
  • More ways to interact with the world. Find new vegetation, locations and treasure surprises; improve travel on roads, farming, fishing, repairs, runestones, mapping, building utilities and the HUD.
  • Extended late-game exploration. Discover expanded Ashlands/Deep North equipment and resource progression, with additional biome weather variety under continued beta validation.

Progression has real milestones

For example, defeating Eikthyr provides materials for an important Workbench extension. Reaching Workbench level 4 allows you to craft the Construction Bench Bundle and build a new workshop. Later, the Forge and Shaman's Table open further metalworking and magic; progressing through the Swamp helps you work toward Shaman's Table level 5 and the Ironworks Bundle. This pattern continues into more advanced stations.

The point is not to grind for a hidden unlock. You can see the materials, build the extensions, improve the station and craft the next Bundle. The two-volume Player Guide explains the route and the Encyclopedia provides exact costs.

Alchemy is more than another crafting menu

BAO's Alchemy revolves around discovering what ingredients do and using the right tools to produce a result. Research reagents, prepare your mixture, then use the appropriate brewing or conversion station. Oil Press, Distillery, Fermenter, Aging Barrel, Mead Kettle and Alchemy Lab have different jobs; one machine does not replace the others.

Your character faces new threats — and new ways to respond

Environmental conditions and combat injuries have consequences beyond a momentary damage number. Different damage types can cause distinct debuffs; some conditions interact with existing wounds or exposure. Healing, resting near a fire, First Aid, food selection and resistance equipment can make a meaningful difference. The Player Guide explains the triggers and remedies rather than just listing status names.

One connected Balrond experience

Absolute Overhaul is the player-facing foundation: resources, recipes, crafting stations, Alchemy, equipment, exploration, world content, survival and gameplay utilities.

Other Balrond mods in the same ecosystem have distinct roles:

  • Monster Mayhem — creatures, biome spawns, drops, raids, boss encounters, taming, breeding and mutations.
  • Humanoid Randomizer — varied humanoid enemies, weapons, roles and combat styles.
  • Constructions — expanded architectural pieces and building families.
  • Furniture Reborn — furniture, decorations and additional home-building options.

These systems complement BAO, but they are not all implemented inside the BAO DLL. The currently published Thunderstore dependency list includes the four companion mods above. Follow the required dependencies shown for the exact version you install; your mod manager should resolve them automatically. Do not remove a declared dependency simply because its features are described separately.
