About SomethingFishy
From ThunderstoreA short, hand-made ring mini-game inspired by Dredge replaces holding the button. Every fish has its own pattern, you see the fish itself on the line, and when you land a good one your Viking just shows off.
Something Fishy
Fishing you actually play.
In vanilla Valheim a fish bites and you hold the button until it gives up. Something Fishy turns that moment into a short, hand-made ring mini-game inspired by Dredge: a needle spins around a ring, you pull when it crosses the green zone and land the gold for a perfect hit. Every fish has its own pattern, you see the fish itself hanging on the line, and when you land a good one your Viking just shows off.
Everything is built from the game's own models, sounds and style, so it should feel like it was always part of Valheim.
Cast and hook like always. The ring opens on its own once the fish is on the line.
What this mod is NOT
- No new fish, items or buildings. You catch the same vanilla fish, with the same rod and bait.
- No overpowered rewards. A clean catch gives the fish a higher quality and, sometimes, a few coins or a piece of amber. No extra fish, no rare fish made easy.
- Not a chore. A ring takes a few seconds. Fishing is something you repeat, so it stays short.
- Not complicated. One button: Left Click or Space. Tab lets the fish go.
- Not risky. If anything goes wrong, the ring closes, your controls come back and vanilla fishing carries on.
- Not a commitment. Nothing is saved into your world and the server doesn't need it. Players without the mod fish like vanilla. Put it on the server too and admins decide the balance settings for everyone.
Features
12 patterns, one for every fish
Each vanilla fish always plays the same pattern, so you learn your fish. Fish from other mods get a fixed pattern too.
THE PATTERNS (click to expand)
• Spinning needle (Perch): the classic. Zones stay put.
• Jumping (Pike): one zone at a time, and it jumps somewhere else if you wait too long.
• Drifting zones (Tuna): the zones slide around and the needle turns back on every hit.
• Murky water (Tetra): zones fade in and out. Remember where they were.
• Long pull (Trollfish): press as you enter the long zone and hold to the end.
• Twin rings (Giant herring): two rings, two needles turning opposite ways.
• Pendulum (Grouper): the needle swings back and forth over the top half.
• Coral order (Coral cod): numbered zones, hit them in order.
• Lantern (Anglerfish): the ring is dark, you only see what the light ahead of the needle shows.
• Ice (Northern salmon): the needle freezes on ice, tap fast to break free.
• Storm (Magmafish): faster on every hit, and the red zones hurt.
• Puffing (Pufferfish): zones swell and shrink, the gold only shows when they are full.
The fish on the line
The fish you hooked hangs in the middle of the ring, its own 3D model, thrashing when it tries to escape. Behind it is the water of the biome you are fishing in: clear Meadows blue, murky Swamp green, Ashlands embers, Deep North ice.
Difficulty comes from the fish
How hard a ring is comes from the fish's own vanilla stats and its quality. A Perch is gentle, a Magmafish fights back. Fish from other mods are placed on the same scale automatically.
Stamina still matters
Pulling and missing cost your real stamina, like vanilla reeling. Run out and the fish gets away. Food, meads and your Fishing skill all help.
Hold up your catch
Land a quality 2+ fish without a single miss and your Viking holds it up, the rod tucked away, while the camera swings around to see it. Sometimes there is something in its belly: coins, amber, maybe a silver necklace.

Easier hooking and a fish finder
You get a little more time to hook after a nibble (1.5 s instead of vanilla's 0.5 s). While your float is in the water a small readout shows how many fish are nearby, how many like your bait, and flashes when one is biting.

Fishing together
Players who also have the mod see a small ring above your head while you reel, how close you are to landing it, and the fish in your hand when you hold it up.
Compatibility
- Chef's Kiss: made to work together. The fish you catch are normal vanilla items, ready for the prep table.
- Mods that add fish (for example TheFisher): their fish get a pattern and difficulty automatically. You can also set one by hand in the config (
4 - Fish / CustomFish). - Mods that change vanilla reeling may conflict, since this mod replaces the reeling part.
Configuration
Everything can be changed in game with the config manager (F1), or in BepInEx/config/Creco.Fishy.cfg.
Servers: if the server has the mod too, the balance settings (2 - Difficulty, 3 - Rewards, 4 - Fish) come from the server and only admins can change them. Keys, visuals and sound stay personal. The mod still works fine on servers without it.
MAIN SETTINGS (click to expand)
• 1 - General: turn the mod on or off, pull key (Space), let go key (Tab).
• 2 - Difficulty: needle speed, zone size, stamina costs, or switch to a fixed number of misses (Lives) instead of stamina.
