About CrimsonBlood
From ThunderstoreBlood overhaul: directional impact blood, droplets, bleeding trails and wound marks, decals that last two in-game days, and player bleeding until bandaged. Hides vanilla blood. Works with Dismemberment and The Dead Remain.
Crimson Blood
What it does: Crimson Blood replaces Valheim's blood with a fuller, local visual blood system. Hits spray blood in the direction of the blow, droplets fall with gravity and land on the ground, walls and buildings, wounded creatures leave bleeding trails, and the aftermath stays on the ground for two in-game days. Valheim's own blood is hidden so the two never show at once. Creature blood is purely visual. Your own bleeding is real: until you bandage, you lose a little health every few seconds and can bleed to death (all configurable).
Part of the Scavengers Survival Series for Valheim.
New in 0.10.1
- Blood fades on time. Ground and wall blood now lasts the two in-game days it promises (about an hour of
play) and then fades. It used to stay far longer.
New in 0.10.0
- Vanilla blood is now hidden by default (
HideVanillaBlood), so you never see Valheim's blood and Crimson
Blood's at the same time. It now reliably catches every creature's own hit blood; set it to false to see both.
- No more bleeding from small knocks. Your character only starts bleeding from a single hit that takes more
than 15 health (PlayerBleedMinimumHealthLoss), so a stumble off a slope or a bump no longer starts a bleed.
- Works with Dismemberment: when it is installed, Crimson Blood leaves the wounds on slashing hits to it, so a
creature never gets two wounds for one hit.
- Works with The Dead Remain (carcasses that stay and decay).
- Fixes: blood from your own bleed no longer feeds back into new blood; elemental damage-over-time no longer
re-marks the body every second; every blood visual is cleared on logout so old splats cannot reappear in the next world; a pool collider leak is gone.
- Performance: settled splats update less often, and per-hit work is lighter.
What it adds
- Directional blood bursts based on impact direction.
- Falling droplets, pressure streaks, pools, and surface marks.
- Blood that lands on terrain, floors, walls, wooden structures, and steep rocks.
- Grounded death spills instead of floating blood clouds on lethal hits.
- Wounded creatures leave bleeding trails; visible wound marks stay on creatures and the player for a while.
- Surface blood that can remain for up to two Valheim in-game days.
- Red blood for living creatures, with black blood for skeletons and ghosts.
- Larger, heavier blood impacts from strong blunt weapons.
- Performance limits, effect pools and render-distance settings.
Bleeding and bandaging
- A strong enough hit makes animals, monsters and the player drip blood as they move. Creatures bleed until
they die or despawn (their bleeding is visual only).
- Your character keeps bleeding until bandaged, and the bleeding hurts: by default you lose 0.5 health every
2 seconds and it can kill you (EnablePlayerBleedDamage, PlayerBleedDamagePerTick, PlayerBleedTickSeconds, PlayerBleedCanKill). Press G to bandage; it uses 1 Leather Scrap by default (changeable or off).
- Bandaging stops the bleeding; it does not restore health.
Controls
- G — Bandage yourself and stop your bleeding. Requires 1 Leather Scrap by default.
- F11 — Write Crimson Blood diagnostics to
BepInEx/LogOutput.log. - F12 — Clear recent Crimson Blood diagnostic events.
All keys and bandage requirements can be changed in the config file.
Installation
Install with r2modman / Thunderstore Mod Manager. Manually: install BepInExPack for Valheim, then put CrimsonBlood.dll and the supplied assets folder in Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/CrimsonBlood/. Launch Valheim once to create the config file. If an asset is missing, Crimson Blood safely uses fallback visuals instead.
Notes
For creatures Crimson Blood is local and visual-only: it does not alter world saves, creature health, damage, drops, stamina or AI, and other players do not need the mod. The only gameplay effect is your own bleeding (see above). Creature blood is drawn by the player whose game runs that creature (usually the first player near it or the host), so in multiplayer a player hitting a creature another player's game runs sees Valheim's own blood there instead of Crimson Blood's.
