Tamed Creature XP - Level Up

Give your tamed Valheim creatures persistent XP, levels, rewards, and useful progression. Creatures that take part in combat can gain XP even when the player or another tame lands the final blow.

For the fullest experience and access to a wider selection of tameable creatures, using LetMeTameYou alongside this mod is recommended. It is optional: Tamed Creature XP - Level Up handles progression for creatures that are already tamed.

Why this mod exists

The idea came from taming a boss and wanting to level it, only to find that its boss status made that impossible. A friend and I wanted more gameplay around tamed creatures, so this mod gives them persistent XP, levels, and goals of their own.

Main features

• Persistent XP and levels stored on each tamed creature.
• Configurable XP rewards and cumulative level thresholds.
• Progression speed adapted to creature difficulty: common creatures level faster, powerful creatures level more slowly, and tamed bosses progress slowest.
• XP sharing for nearby tamed creatures that helped in combat.
• The tamed Dvergr support/healer mage receives XP itself when its pink magic participates in a fight.
• Tamed creatures added by other mods can gain XP. Unknown defeated creatures receive an automatic reward based on health, level, and boss status.
• Limited offline progression grants 0.2 XP per inactive minute when a tame is loaded again, approximately 1 XP every 5 minutes. Fractions are saved between inactive periods.
• The support mage's healing radius can increase with its level.
• Configurable level-up healing and a short protective shield.
• A one-time in-game Legendary Companion achievement when one of your creatures reaches level 6.
• English and French configuration labels.

Beast Bond Cape

The Cape du lien bestial recipe unlocks when one of your tamed creatures reaches level 3.

• Crafted at the Black Forge.
• Recipe: 12 Black Metal, 16 Linen Thread, 10 Fine Wood, and 3 Wisps.
• Uses a custom appearance based on the Ashlands cape shape.
• Doubles XP gained by your tamed creatures while the player wears it.
• Keeps the durability of the original cape template.
• Existing capes and their current quality are preserved when updating.
• Each upgrade level costs 4 Black Metal, 6 Linen Thread, 4 Fine Wood, and 1 Wisp.
• The dropped cape now uses a stable native Ashlands cape ground model and keeps its custom identity when picked up.
• Quality 2 grants frost resistance. Quality 3 and higher grant frost and fire resistance.

Creature Backpack

The Sac à dos de créature recipe unlocks when one of your tamed creatures reaches level 4.

• Crafted at the Black Forge.
• Recipe: 12 Black Metal, 12 Linen Thread, and 10 Fine Wood.
• Equip it on a level 4 or higher tamed creature; the crafted item is consumed and permanently binds one backpack to that creature.
• Contains 15 manual storage slots and does not collect loot automatically.
• Aim at the equipped creature and press the configured key, P by default, to open it.
• Press E to close the creature backpack.
• A violet wisp marks a creature carrying a backpack.

Multiplayer

Install the same mod version and dependencies on every client. Keep shared progression settings identical for the smoothest multiplayer experience.

Installation

Gale or another Thunderstore manager

Search for Tamed Creature XP - Level Up in the Valheim community and install it with the manager.

Manual installation

1. Install BepInExPack Valheim and Jotunn.
2. Copy TamedCreatureXP.dll into BepInEx/plugins.
3. Launch Valheim once to generate the configuration file.

Please report repeatable problems with the game log, installed mod list, and the exact action that triggered the issue.

Beta status

This mod is actively used in the author's own game. Version 0.1.6 fixes the cape ground drop, improves compatibility with Wire's Enemy HUD, makes the creature backpack consume correctly, and increases the crafting costs of the cape and backpack. It retains the offline-XP balance and Dvergr support-mage fixes from earlier versions. Other beta issues may still be discovered.
