Hearth and Village
Viking villages, villagers move into your beds, work jobs like farmer, lumberjack, cook, keeper, fisher. They defend the village or go with you for combat, go on expeditions and raise families.
Still a work in progress, beta, so please reach out to me in discord for bug fixes or suggestions.

Features
- Villages. Build a Village Banner (hammer › Misc). It marks a circle (40 m, 55 m as a Village, 75 m as a Town). Use the banner to open the village book, where you manage everything: villagers, work, storage, expeditions and food.
- Villagers. Mark a bed in a closed house inside the circle (Shift + E on the bed). Wanderers arrive over time, or you can recruit them in the book for coins. Each villager has a name, traits, health, strength, gear and skills that rise with use.
- Jobs.
- Farmer: works all the hoed ground in the village, keeps it planted with the crops you choose and grows their seeds.
- Lumberjack: cuts, gathers and replants trees around a Forest marker. The marker can be placed anywhere near a village.
- Station tender: feeds smelters, kilns, windmills and similar stations from the village chests, following the orders you set.
- Cook and alchemist: cook food and brew meads to keep the pantry stocked.
- Fisher: fishes the village shore with real bait.
- Animal keeper: runs fenced pastures. She feeds the animals over the fence, culls extras, collects eggs and honey, fetches wild animals and tames them in the pasture over time (faster with her Ranching skill).
- Villagers with no job tidy up: they pick up loose items and sort the chests.
- Armory. Mark any village chest as the armory (Shift + E). Villagers take better weapons, armour and tools from it.
- Soldiers and defence. Soldiers (tank, fighter, ranger, healer; the role comes from what is in their pack, and a healer needs a healing staff, which the base game doesn't give players, so it comes from another mod) guard the village and can follow you in formation; hold K for the formation wheel. When monsters come near the banner the bell rings: soldiers fight and everyone else runs to bed. A villager who goes down recovers in their bed instead of dying (permadeath is optional).
- Expeditions. Send villagers to other biomes for loot. How it goes depends on their gear and skills.
- Families. A couple sharing a comfortable home can have children. Children grow up over 30 days and inherit looks, traits and talents from their parents.
- Village levels. Upgrade from Hamlet to Village to Town for more room and more villagers.
Getting started
- Build a Village Banner with the hammer (Misc tab, needs a workbench).
- Inside its circle, build a small house with a roof, walls, a door and a bed, then press Shift + E on the bed. Its hover text should say "ready for a villager".
- Recruit a villager in the book (press E on the banner) or wait for a wanderer. Give them a job in the book.
- Put materials, seeds and food in chests inside the village. That is where the villagers look for what they need.
Multiplayer
Everyone (and a dedicated server, if you use one) must have the mod, with the same 0.9.x version.
Configuration
Settings are in BepInEx/config/txc.village.cfg:
- village radius and spacing between villages
- recruit price
- how often wanderers come
- permadeath
- injury time
- extra item names that count as healing staves (see Soldiers and defence above)
