About TjalfesMarrow

From Thunderstore

BETA. A grey trinket amulet: faster movement, a bigger discovery radius on the map, faster stamina regeneration, cheaper running and jumping. Made from a mould and a cast in the Frost Foundry. Configurable, and decided by the server.

Tjalfes Marrow (beta)

> Beta, version 0.11.0. The mod works in the author's own game, but it is new and has not been tested widely, for example on many different servers. Expect rough edges, and please report problems with the log.

A trinket amulet for Valheim. It looks grey and white, and while you wear it you are faster, see more of the world on your map, and your stamina lasts longer.

What it does (default values)

  • Movement speed +10 %
  • Discovery radius +50 %: the circle that is uncovered on the map around you is bigger.
  • Stamina regeneration +10 %
  • Run stamina use -40 %
  • Jump stamina use -10 %

Every value can be changed in the config file, and on a server the server decides.

Crafting

By default the amulet is made in three steps (the setting Mould needed):

  1. A mould (TjalfesMarrowMould_TM) is needed. It is not crafted and has no source of its own: the server gives it to the players (spawn TjalfesMarrowMould_TM with the console commands on, or a loot list).
  2. At a Black Forge (level 1) the mould (used up) and 3 Amber Pearls, 3 Leather Scraps and 5 Bone Fragments make a cast (TjalfesMarrowCast_TM).
  3. In the Frost Foundry, fuel it and add the cast: after 60 seconds it has made the amulet.

With Mould needed set to false, the amulet is crafted directly at a workbench (level 1) for the same cost. The stations, their levels, the ingredients and the time can be changed in the settings. For testing, spawn TjalfesMarrow works with the console commands on.

How to craft the amulet directly, like version 0.10.2 (no mould)

From version 0.11.0 the amulet needs a mould, a cast and the Frost Foundry (see Crafting above). Version 0.10.2 and older crafted it directly at a workbench. If you want that again (for example because your players have no way to get a mould), change one setting: Mould needed, from true to false. It is a setting in the config file, so you do not have to change anything in the game or reinstall the mod. The amulet then costs 3 Amber Pearls, 3 Leather Scraps and 5 Bone Fragments and is crafted at a workbench (level 1), exactly as before. Your amulets and your settings are not touched.

Who has to change it: the config file of the server decides (on a dedicated server, or when you host the game yourself, it is the host's file). Players on a server do not have to change their own file: the server's value replaces theirs while they are connected. In a single player game, you are the server, so change your own file.

Step by step

  1. Start the game once with the mod installed, so that the config file is made. (If you update from 0.10.2 you already have it, and the new setting is added to it the first time you start 0.11.0.)
  2. Close the game (or stop the server). This is the safest way, and you do not have to restart afterwards: the file is read when the game starts.
  3. Find the file TjalfesMarrow.cfg.
  • Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman: choose your profile, open Settings (the left column), and click Browse profile folder. In the window that opens, go into BepInEx, then config, and

find TjalfesMarrow.cfg. (The mod manager also has a Config editor page in the left column: if you use it, find TjalfesMarrow.cfg in the list, and look for Mould needed under 2 - Crafting.)

  • Manual install or a dedicated server: it is in the BepInEx/config folder inside the Valheim folder (on a server: the server's Valheim folder).
  1. Open the file with a text editor (Notepad is fine; right click, Open with).
  2. Find the section [2 - Crafting]. Below it, find the lines about Mould needed. They look like this:
## The amulet is made in three steps: the mould ... With false, no mould, cast or foundry is needed ...
# Setting type: Boolean
# Default value: true
Mould needed = true
  1. Change the last line (the one that starts with Mould needed =) so that it says false:
Mould needed = false

Only change the word after the equals sign. Do not change the lines that start with # (they are only the description), and do not remove the equals sign or the spaces around it. Write false in lower case.

  1. Save the file (Ctrl+S) and close the editor.
  2. Start the game (or the server). In the game, open a workbench, and the Tjalfes Marrow amulet is in the crafting list, with the three ingredients. (You need the ingredients in your inventory, and a level 1 workbench close by.)

To check that it worked

  • The log (BepInEx/LogOutput.log) is a text file that you can open in Notepad. It does not say Mould needed by itself, but the crafting menu shows the amulet at the workbench.
  • If the amulet is not in the workbench list, the change did not take: open the file again and check that the line says Mould needed = false (and not False with a capital F, a missing space, or a # at the start of the line), and that you edited the

file of the server, if you play on one. Also check that Craftable under the same section is true, Crafting station is Workbench and Station level is 1 (those are the defaults).

To change it back: set Mould needed = true again. The recipe at the workbench disappears, and the cast is made at the Black Forge again.

What happens to the mould and the cast: the items stay in the game (they must, so the server and the players have the same items), but nobody needs them when Mould needed = false.

Other changes in the same section: Crafting station and Station level set where the amulet is crafted when no mould is needed (for example Forge), and Ingredients sets the cost, for example Ingredients = AmberPearl:2,LeatherScraps:5.
