MySix Cartographer

Valheim's own map shows the land at about 12 m to a pixel and nothing anyone has built on it. The troll cave and the copper you ran past are lost unless you stop and pin them, and what one player finds reaches the others only through a cartography table. MySix Cartographer adds a map tab of its own, shared by everyone on the server: a red wisp marks what you pass, and the land it uncovers can be drawn in detail.

• The detailed map: zoom in on the tab and there is your base from above, its roofs in their own materials, the doors that lead in, the trees by kind and the field you tilled. It is drawn live, for everyone on the server: cut down a tree and a few seconds later it is gone. See The detailed map.
• No-spawn areas: tick the box on the tab and the map and minimap show, in yellow, the ground where creatures cannot appear: round every fire, torch, workbench, bed, portal and other piece players have built that keeps them away. Overlapping areas join into one, so a gap in a base's cover shows at a glance. See No-spawn areas.
• Getting a Cartographer: red wisps drift by the lore runestones at night; catch one and make a Cartographer at a workbench. It circles you as a dim red light and takes no equipment slot. See Getting a Cartographer.
• Marks that place themselves: while your Cartographer is out it marks dungeons, ruins, villages, bosses, ore, berries and more, once you are close enough to have seen them yourself. Portals, homes, boats and every player's grave are marked by the server for everyone, no Cartographer needed. See Marks.
• The Cartographer tab: click a mark to cross it off when it's done, Alt-click to name it, right-click to hide it, all three for everyone. Each player sets their own icon size, colours, which patches of berries and mushrooms show, whether names are written under the marks and how far out marks fade. See The Cartographer tab.
• Kept with the world: marks, the explored map and your choices on the tab are kept inside the world save, so they go wherever the world goes: Steam Cloud, another computer, a server. See Kept with the world.

Everyone who plays together needs it, the server included.

In testing: an early version for the MySix group to try out. It may change, and anything odd is worth reporting.

Part of the MySix mod suite. Every mod in the suite needs MySix Core, which adds the in-game mysix command for reading and changing settings. Settings are kept in the world itself, so a world plays the same on any computer or server: a setting for everyone is changed once, by the host or a server admin, and each player's own choices are kept in the world for that player.

Installing

Install with a mod manager - the Thunderstore Mod Manager, Gale and r2modman all work - and it fetches BepInEx and MySix Core for you. To install by hand, install BepInExPack_Valheim first, then unzip the DLL of MySix Core and of each MySix mod you want into BepInEx/plugins. Everyone playing together should run the same versions.

Settings

The Settings wiki page lists this mod's 46 settings: what each does, its choices and default, who can change it, and the exact command to type. In short: press F5 in game to open the console (if nothing opens, add -console to Valheim's launch options) and type mysix to list every setting, mysix set <setting> <value> to change one.

Languages

What the MySix mods show you in play - the names and descriptions of their items and portals, their messages on screen, and the Cartographer's map tab and marks - is in the language you play Valheim in, in every language the game offers except Abenaki, which shows English for now as we could not find a translation we trust. The mysix console command, the setting descriptions it prints, the Settings wiki pages and the warnings before a server restart are in English only. We mainly test in English; if something reads wrong in your language, please let us know.

Note on achievements

Valheim switches achievements off for anyone with a mod installed. MySix Mods Not Cheating, part of the MySix bundle, keeps them working.
