Companions of Northarun

Choose an animal companion. It follows you everywhere — through portals too — grows from a young animal into a legend, learns talents and talks to you in its own voice. Fully standalone (needs only Jotunn). English and Polish.

Getting started

• Press Ctrl+U and pick your first companion in the HERD tab: Wolf, Boar or Raven.
• Build a Companion Lair (hammer → Misc; 10 wood, 4 deer hide, 4 resin). It is needed for swapping companions,

growth rituals, reviving and the raven's mailbox. Shift+E on the Lair opens its chest.

• U — order: Follow → Stay → Work (troll and boar). Raven: look at an item on the ground and press U to fetch it.
• E on your companion — pet it. Shift+E — saddlebags. Use food on it to feed it.

Species

Another starting species can be adopted once any companion reaches level 10 (configurable).

Growth

• Levels 1–30, four stages: Young (1–9), Adult (10–19), Veteran (20–29), Legendary (30). Each stage makes the animal

bigger, unlocks a new coat; Veterans get glowing eyes, Legends an aura.

• To grow past 9, 19 and 29 perform a ritual at the Lair (offerings are configurable).
• Experience comes from what the animal does: fighting, foraging, chopping, carrying, fetching, post — and slowly from time together.
• Bond (0–100) grows with feeding (favorite food counts most), petting and time; it multiplies experience (×0.6 – ×1.4).
• A companion that falls is knocked out for 3 minutes (no experience lost) — or revive it at the Lair with its favorite food.

Talents

One point per level, 12 talents per species in three branches. Rows unlock at levels 1 / 6 / 12 / 22. Reset at the Lair for 100 coins. Talents only affect what the companion itself does — they never add player stats and don't copy abilities of character skill-tree mods.

• Wolf — Fangs (damage, hamstring, guardian's fury, Wrath of Fenrir) · Fur (health, licking wounds, tough hide, Unbroken) ·

Loyalty (provoke, to the rescue, jaws of steel, Loyal to the End — takes a killing blow for you).

• Boar — Snout (forage radius, rooting, pouch, Golden Truffle) · Farmhand (harvest, resowing, pantry, Steward) ·

Charge (charge, thick skin, mud bath, Wild Frenzy).

• Raven — Post (pouch, swift wings, Messenger of the Gods, Huginn and Muninn) · Fetch (range, strong talons, arrow gatherer, catcher) ·

Wings (harass, warning cry, distraction, Winged Shield).

• Little Troll — Woodcutter (heavy fist, hard fists, log splitter, Forester) · Stonebreaker (crushing, hard knuckles, hauler, Tireless) ·

Brute (stone skin, slam, troll blood, Camp Guardian).

• Lox Calf — Saddlebags (roomy, balanced load, sorting, Bottomless) · Trail (long stride, sure-footed, gentle giant, Saddlebags at Home) ·

Colossus (thick hide, stomp, living wall, Bulwark).

Notes

• Companions are not stored in the world: their state lives in your character (works with server-side characters).

The animal disappears when you log out and comes back when you log in.

• Items that can't pass through portals (ore, metal) in saddlebags block portals for you, like in your own inventory.

The raven never carries such items.

• Companions don't hurt players, other companions, tamed animals or buildings, and players can't hurt them.
• Dialogue lines can be replaced: copy lines_en.txt / lines_pl.txt sections into BepInEx/config/Companions/lines_xx.txt,

then pet lines in the console.

• Console: pet info, pet call (bring your companion back), pet window; admins: pet level <n>, pet xp <n>, pet adopt <species>, pet reset.
