About NotYourRadar

From Thunderstore

Progression-aware persistent map pins and nearby tactical markers for Valheim.

NotYourRadar

NotYourRadar is a progression-aware radar and map-pin system for Valheim.

It separates discovery into two complementary systems:

  • Persistent Pins for long-term world knowledge and route planning
  • Nearby Markers for short-range, real-time tactical awareness

The mod is designed to preserve exploration while still making discovered resources, locations, creatures, and useful world objects easier to track.

Core Features

Persistent Pins

Eligible world objects can be recorded permanently on the map as you explore.

Examples include:

  • resource nodes
  • berry bushes
  • mushrooms
  • herbs and flowers
  • natural containers
  • beehives
  • selected structures and points of interest

Persistent pins are intended for strategic world knowledge. They remain available after leaving the area and survive save/reload.

Dense resources are recorded individually rather than clustered, allowing gathering routes to be planned precisely.

Nearby Markers

Nearby Markers provide live short-range information without permanently adding everything to the map.

Examples include:

  • creatures
  • fish
  • pickable resource markers (temporarily disabled in 0.1.1)
  • selected one-time loot objects
  • Serpents
  • Leviathans

Nearby Markers update dynamically as targets move, appear, disappear, or leave detection range.

Progression-Aware Discovery

NotYourRadar respects vanilla boss progression.

Biome-specific targets remain hidden until that biome has been unlocked:

  • Meadows — available immediately
  • Ocean — available immediately
  • Black Forest — unlocked after Eikthyr
  • Swamp — unlocked after The Elder

Later biomes are reserved for future updates.

Progression affects:

  • persistent pin discovery
  • persistent pin restoration
  • Nearby Markers
  • Radar Settings biome sections

Locked-biome targets are not pre-recorded in the background, so unlocking a biome does not suddenly reveal previously unseen world knowledge.

Targets shared between multiple biomes unlock as soon as any valid associated biome is available.

Target Visibility

Each supported target can be enabled or disabled from the Radar Settings menu.

Shared targets stay synchronized across biomes.

For example, disabling Red Mushrooms disables the same logical target everywhere it appears.

Visibility settings persist across reloads.

Hotkeys

Default controls:

  • Alt + M — Toggle Persistent Pins
  • Alt + N — Toggle Nearby Markers
  • Shift + M — Rescan Persistent Pins
  • M — Vanilla map behavior remains unchanged

NotYourRadar requires NotYourHotkeys, which prevents modifier-based radar hotkeys from also triggering their vanilla key actions.

Lifecycle-Aware Pins

Persistent pins are removed when their underlying world object is no longer relevant.

Examples include:

  • depleted or destroyed resource objects
  • emptied natural containers
  • destroyed beehives
  • non-respawning pickables after collection
  • destroyed world objects

Respawning resources remain trackable where appropriate.

Mineable resources use object-specific retirement behavior so large deposits are not removed prematurely.

Radar Settings

Radar Settings can be opened from the Valheim pause menu.

The menu provides separate controls for:

  • Persistent Pins
  • Nearby Markers
  • biome-specific target visibility

Locked biomes remain hidden until progression unlocks them.

The UI is designed to coexist cleanly with the vanilla pause menu and resets correctly when the pause menu is closed.

Icons

NotYourRadar uses custom lightweight map icons for several target families, including:

  • berries
  • caves
  • chests
  • flowers
  • herbs
  • minerals
  • mushrooms
  • skeletal remains
  • stars
  • crossed swords
  • towers
  • wooden structures

Icons are embedded directly into the mod DLL.

Compatibility

NotYourRadar is designed to preserve:

  • vanilla user-created map pins
  • pins created by other mods
  • third-party map systems

It does not intentionally delete or overwrite pins it does not own.

The mod also includes compatibility-oriented target classification for modded content and supports additional world content where it can be safely recognized.

FineWoodPieces compatibility

NotYourRadar excludes these FineWoodPieces world resources:

  • Reeds (BFP_Pickable_Reed)
  • Clay deposits (BFP_Pickable_Clay)
  • Large clay deposits (BFP_Pickable_ClayBig)

These objects do not generate NotYourRadar persistent pins or nearby markers. Previously recorded NotYourRadar-owned pins for these resources are cleaned up when persistent pins are restored.

User-created map pins and third-party pins are not affected.

Requirements

Required:

  • BepInExPack Valheim
  • NotYourHotkeys

Thunderstore dependencies are declared automatically in manifest.json.

Installation

Install through a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager such as r2modman.

Manual installation:

  1. Install BepInEx for Valheim.
  2. Install NotYourHotkeys.
  3. Place NotYourRadar.dll inside a folder under BepInEx/plugins/.

Version

Current release: 0.1.2

NotYourRadar 0.1.2 improves persistent-pin lifecycle accuracy and restores saved pins only after Valheim finishes initializing its minimap.

For release history, see CHANGELOG.md.

The initial release focuses on:

  • Meadows
  • Ocean
  • Black Forest
  • Swamp

Additional biome content and compatibility coverage are planned for later releases.
