Rusty Heathens Mist Control 0.3.0

Your mist. Your brightness. Your view.

Every player can use the Rusty Heathens wooden F8 panel to adjust their own Mistlands mist, wisplight/torch clearing range and ambient brightness. No admin permission or server settings handshake is required. Settings are saved in the player's local BepInEx profile and are never broadcast to other players.

Install or update

1. Close Valheim. Replace the old RustyHeathensMistControl.dll in the active profile's BepInEx/plugins folder with the new DLL. Keep only one active copy.
2. Every player who wants the unlocked panel must update their client. Updating only the server does not unlock an old 0.2.x client.
3. This version is client-side. The server does not need it. Remove the old server-side Mist Control copy during server maintenance, or replace it with 0.3.0, which remains inactive on a headless dedicated server.
4. Keep the existing config. Existing locally stored values migrate from [Server] to [Personal]. Existing [Personal] values take precedence. Keyboard shortcuts are retained. Previously received temporary server settings are not imported from another machine.
5. Disable the separate ValheimGammaMod / GammaMod.dll. Its lighting behavior is included here; the existing BepInEx incompatibility with ColdSpirit.GammaMod remains.
6. Join the game, press F8, choose your preferences and click Apply settings.

The plugin ID remains com.rustyheathens.mistcontrol. Bare-GUID ModGuard approval remains valid. Any external version-specific policy needs its own update.

Controls

• F8: open/close your wooden settings panel.
• Left Shift + F8: toggle mist visibility for your own view.
• Mist & wisps: enable custom mist controls, hide Mistlands mist, and choose wisplight and wisp torch clearing ranges from 5 to 60 metres in your local view.
• Gamma / brightness: enable brightness boost and choose a 0-100 minimum ambient brightness. Presets: Natural, Soft (35), Clear (60).
• Apply settings: saves both tabs for you and applies them immediately.
• Reset this tab: fills in that tab's defaults; Apply is still required.
• Escape / Close: close the panel; unapplied changes are discarded when reopened.

The panel retains the inventory-style wood, emblem, readable white labels, outlines and blue highlights from 0.2.2. Input is blocked while the panel is open so clicking it does not attack/build behind the panel.

Preferences belong to the local mod-manager profile and persist across sessions/worlds. They are not separate per character. Use the F8 panel while playing; close Valheim before editing the file manually.

Gamma is independent of the mist switch. It raises dark ambient lighting while retaining its color, rather than changing monitor gamma. Disabling gamma restores normal lighting. Mist removal affects Mistlands particle mist; weather fog is unchanged. Wisplight/torch range changes affect the local particle rendering; other players retain their own values. This mod does not edit the world or inventory.

Validation

Compiled against the supplied Valheim 1.0.20 managed assemblies. Offline tests passed for personal settings, radius restoration, brightness logic, real BepInEx config migration/persistence, player-config independence and failed-save rollback. A compiled-code audit verifies that admin authorization and settings RPC/networking code are absent.

The F8 panel and two-player visual independence still need an in-game check. Test as a non-admin, change each tab, restart, and confirm another player's view remains unchanged before public release.

The game, Unity, BepInEx and Harmony assemblies are not included.
