Feylight Bloom
Package 0.2.2 - Updated icon
This is an icon-only package update. The tested DLL is byte-identical to 0.2.1 and still reports runtime version 0.2.1. Features, dependencies and validation limitations are unchanged.
A small, standalone Valheim mod for native fey light garlands, with an original druid-themed control panel. Adjust their visible glow, actual illumination and lighting patterns on your own client. Built against Valheim 1.0.20 and BepInEx 5.4.23.5.
Controls
Open /fey in chat. If another mod already registered that command, use /feylightbloom. Existing registrations are never overwritten. If both are occupied, the mod logs the conflict and settings remain available in the config file. Mods that intercept chat independently may still conflict.
- Glow: 0–4x, default 1.35x. Controls visible bulb emission. Native fey bulbs retain their cyan hue; selected Jack-o'-turnip interiors glow warm orange-yellow.
- Illumination: 0–4, default 2. Controls the existing shadowless point light independently from Glow. Zero disables scene illumination while the mod is active.
- Reach: 1–8 m, default 4 m. Controls that light's range.
Apply saves staged choices. Cancel, x, and Escape discard them. Vanilla disables enhancement, clears both nearby-option checkboxes, and restores captured native visuals and light settings. The panel uses the existing input-blocking behavior while open and scales down to fit the window.
Five lighting modes
- Hearthglow: steady illumination.
- Moonbreath: a slow, smooth pulse.
- Firefly Dance: separated, gentle twinkles.
- Wisp Waltz: a phased wave between strings, or a traveling band along individually controlled bulbs.
- Starlit Shimmer: overlapping gentle fades.
Animated glow has deep dim phases while retaining the selected peak Glow. Scene illumination varies more gently. Phases are stable by position within a client and are not synchronized between clients.
Individual bulbs (nearby) is off by default. It independently animates the twelve modeled bulbs on up to eight nearest strings within 20 m. Other strings retain whole-string effects. Hearthglow is steady in either scope. Native fey bulbs use their original unsplit mesh for steady/whole-string settings.
Jack-o'-turnip bulbs
The new Jack-o'-turnip bulbs (nearby) checkbox is also off by default and is independent of Individual bulbs. It replaces the twelve modeled bulbs with miniature vanilla Jack-o'-turnip shells on the nearest eight strings within 20 m. Farther strings retain native fey bulbs and their original colors.
The native pink-and-white body, texture and material are preserved—no orange paint. A small original interior surface glows through the carved face and open lid gap. The garland's existing point light also becomes warm orange-yellow. Glow, Illumination, Reach and all five patterns continue to work. Each turnip has a small fixed forward-facing rotation variation, stable across reloads. Native floating cyan particles are unchanged.
Turning the checkbox off restores native bulb geometry and light color. Missing seasonal assets or unsupported mesh layouts fall back safely. The mod uses game assets already loaded by Valheim; it does not ship extracted assets, create additional build pieces or add per-bulb lights.
Normal hammer dismantling
Vanilla garlands are removable, but only two tiny endpoint colliders accept the hammer ray. This update lets you aim at a modeled bulb or the visible cord to dismantle the garland through the normal hammer action. It works with native bulbs, individual effects and Jack-o'-turnip visuals.
The nearest 32 garlands within 16 m receive supplemental targeting; native hammer reach is still enforced. Other garlands keep vanilla endpoint targeting. Walls and nearer objects block the target normally. Workbench requirements, wards, piece-removal restrictions, ownership routing and resource refunds remain handled by Valheim. No physical colliders, support geometry or placement rays are changed.
The config setting Interaction / HammerTargeting defaults to true. Set it to false to restore endpoint-only picking. The panel's Vanilla button resets lighting and bulb visuals; it leaves this separate hammer convenience enabled. Disabling or removing the plugin restores native picking.
Scope and cost
Settings are local to the BepInEx profile and apply to existing and new verified native piece_FairylightGarland instances. Other clients may choose different settings. Lighting choices do not edit world data. Hammer dismantling still removes the piece through Valheim's normal world/network operation; the mod changes only which part can be targeted. Recipes, costs, ownership and network rules are unchanged. The design requires no server installation; real multiplayer has not been tested.
The mod reuses one native point light per string and adds no light emitters. Up to 24 nearest fey lights within 32 m are eligible, with native LightLod quality prioritization still applied. Animated glow is limited to 64 strings within 40 m; farther strings use steady selected glow. Cached registrations are selected every half-second. Global discovery occurs only at startup/enable, not every frame.
Native individual bulbs use a shared 13-part derivative of the original 1,100-vertex/1,424-triangle mesh, adding up to 12 draw submissions per string per rendering pass. Turnip strings use shared combined geometry: 7,340 vertices and 8,864 triangles, with 3 material slots in whole-string mode or 14 in individual animated mode. Across eight strings, that can add 16 or 104 draw submissions per pass relative to unsplit native garlands. The two turnip meshes contain about 811,008 raw vertex/index bytes before Unity overhead, in addition to the native bulb-partition cache.
