About FireSalts

From Thunderstore

Craft nine decorative fire salts for temporary solid or slowly changing flames, original sparks and synchronized crackles. Use on a burning campfire, hearth or bonfire.

Fire Salts

Turn a quiet evening by the fire into a small light show. Craft fantasy salts and use one on a burning campfire, hearth or bonfire for 30 seconds of colored flame, crackles and short bursts of sparks.

Fire Salts is decorative. It adds no fuel, damage, warmth bonus, buffs or terrain changes. The original fire returns to normal when the effect expires or the fire goes out.

Crafting

Use a sheltered level 1 workbench and its Craft tab. Every recipe makes 3 salts.

| Salt | Ingredients | Effect | |---|---|---| | Seaglass | 2 Resin + 1 Coal + 1 Greydwarf Eye | Teal green | | Roseember | 2 Resin + 1 Coal + 1 Raspberry | Rose pink | | Moonviolet | 2 Resin + 1 Coal + 1 Blueberry | Violet | | Verdant | 2 Resin + 1 Coal + 1 Thistle | Emerald green | | Frostglass | 2 Resin + 1 Coal + 1 Flint | Icy blue | | Sunamber | 2 Resin + 1 Coal + 1 Dandelion | Golden amber | | Aurora | 1 Seaglass Salt + 1 Moonviolet Salt + 1 Verdant Salt + 1 Coal | Slow green, teal and violet cycle | | Prismatic | 1 Roseember Salt + 1 Frostglass Salt + 1 Sunamber Salt + 1 Coal | Smooth, slow rainbow cycle | | Cinderblend | 1 Roseember Salt + 1 Moonviolet Salt + 1 Sunamber Salt + 1 Coal | Steady amber flame with differently colored sparks |

Discover the workbench and pick up each ingredient to unlock its recipe. Craft the component salts to discover the three blends. Recipes do not appear in hand crafting or the Upgrade tab. These are fantasy recipes, not instructions for real fire additives.

Using a salt

  1. Put salts in a hotbar slot.
  2. Look at a burning campfire, hearth or bonfire until its normal interaction prompt appears. Stay within normal interaction reach.
  3. Press the salt's hotbar key. Success consumes exactly one salt and starts the 30-second effect.

Unlit, unsupported and already-colored fires keep your salt. Looking away or standing too far away also keeps it. Remote-owner use can take a moment; keep looking at the fire while it completes. A cancelled or expired request spends nothing. Inventory right-click does not apply salts to the world.

Native drag/drop remains an optional physical toss. Missed items can be recovered manually; automatic pickup is disabled. A dropped stack can consume only one item per fresh toss. This optional route still depends on native physics.

Only one salt effect can occupy a fire. Native fuel, smoke, shelter and weather rules still apply. Torches, braziers, smelters and other fire types are unsupported.

Installation

Fire Salts is standalone. Its only mod dependency is BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351. Import the direct Fire Salts package with your mod manager and launch modded from that profile. For manual installation, copy BepInEx/plugins/FireSalts/FireSalts.dll into your BepInEx profile.

Keep exactly one Fire Salts DLL installed. The old 0.1.0 private playtest/source bundle contained a nested archive and did not install correctly when imported as a mod. Replace that outer bundle with the direct package.

If recipes are missing, confirm the log says Loading [Fire Salts 0.1.3], use the workbench's Craft tab, discover the ingredients, and clear crafting filters. A ZIP sitting inside BepInEx/plugins is not an installed plugin.

Sound and settings

The opening uses the first 1.25 seconds of a licensed ignition recording. A separate crackle recording supplies the ongoing sound, with spark bursts timed to its uneven attacks. The track repeats once as needed to fill the shared 30-second effect and fades at the end. Late arrivals join the current phase instead of replaying the ignition.

Local settings live in BepInEx/config/smeagsmods.firesalts.cfg:

  • Visuals: temporary colors and particle effects.
  • Sound: decorative audio within 12 metres.
  • Volume: salt audio gain from 0 to 1; default 0.70.

At most eight nearby fires within 32 metres render per client. Each rendered fire adds at most 24 particles across four emitters, one audio source and no lights. There are no flashing color changes. Under a severe frame stall, missed spark cues are skipped rather than emitted in a catch-up shower.

Native smoke particle colors, light intensity/range and fire emission rates remain unchanged. Colored fire light can illuminate smoke, and previously emitted native particles can retain their tint for their normal lifetime. Other mods changing the same fire materials may conflict.

Verification and multiplayer

See TESTING.md for the checks performed on this candidate. Automated private-world tests use native hover rays, item-use routing and crafting controls with programmatic input. They do not prove physical keyboard/mouse usability or human acceptance of audio balance.

Real multiplayer and dedicated-server behavior remain unverified. Use the same version on every participating client and server when testing. A remote fire owner grants a short reservation and ownership transfer; the requesting player rechecks reach, target, ownership, burning state and inventory before consuming one item. Shared salt identity and start time determine color phase and expiry. Single-process ownership and late-arrival simulations are not remote networking tests. There is no version handshake, and a process failure between item consumption and state publication can lose an effect.

Remove mod items from inventories, containers and ground drops before uninstalling. Back up saves and begin with a disposable world when evaluating this candidate. Dropped world items remain tinted native resin models; the inventory art and cover are separate original artwork.

Original code is MIT licensed. Licensed audio is embedded for use within Fire Salts and is not covered by MIT or licensed for extraction/reuse. Native game assets are referenced in memory and are not redistributed. See THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
