PetKeeper

Per-pet control for tamed creatures in Valheim.

Features

• Freeze growth per pet. Keep an individual baby wolf, boar, or lox small for as long as you like, then let it grow whenever you choose.
• Follow / stay controls. Tell one pet or all nearby pets to follow you or stay put.
• Invincible pets. Tamed creatures take no damage.
• Peaceful pets. Tamed creatures never attack anything.
• Wild animals are untouched. They grow and behave exactly as normal.

Default Controls

For F6 and F7, the target is the pet under your crosshair. If you aren't looking at one, the closest tamed pet within 6 meters is used. A message in the top-left corner confirms the pet's name and its new state.

Hotkeys do nothing while the chat, console, a menu, the map, or your inventory is open.

Installation

1. Install BepInEx for Valheim.
2. Copy PetKeeper.dll into Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/.
3. Launch the game once. A config file is created at Valheim/BepInEx/config/com.example.petkeeper.cfg.

If you use a mod manager such as r2modman, install the package from there instead.

Configuration

Edit BepInEx/config/com.example.petkeeper.cfg. Changes are picked up while the game is running.

Key values use Unity key names, such as G, F7, or LeftControl + F8. For an in-game settings menu, install the BepInEx Configuration Manager and press F1.

Multiplayer and Servers

PetKeeper must be installed on every player's game. Creatures are simulated by whichever player currently owns them, so a player without the mod can cause protected pets to take damage, attack, or grow.

• The per-pet growth freeze is saved on the creature itself, so it carries over between modded players and survives restarts.
• Hotkeys and config values are per player.
• Installing the mod on a dedicated server is optional and does little on its own.

On servers you don't run, ask the admin before using it, since invincible pets change gameplay.

Building From Source

1. Install the .NET SDK and BepInEx for Valheim.
2. Open PetKeeper.csproj and set ValheimDir to your Valheim install folder.
3. Run dotnet build.

Known Limitations

• Not yet tested against every Valheim version. If a patch fails to apply after a game update, check the BepInEx log (BepInEx/LogOutput.log) for the method name.
• The follow message can briefly show the wrong state because the follow target updates a moment late. The pet itself behaves correctly.
