Novelty!

Description

"It's a bit hard to give life your all when you've been eating nothing but turnips, cranberries, and rye for the past 3 months, aye?"

Novelty is a vanilla+ mod that seeks to encourage dietary diversity beyond just the vanilla nutrition system. Each food now has a novelty group that goes down as you eat it and recovers gradually as as you eat other things. Eating novel foods will fill up your novelty bar, which will decay slowly over time and will lose 30% of it's current value when you die. Some foods like wine and pie get extra novelty groups beyond their base ingredient, for your brewing and baking pleasure.

By default, high novelty gives you a bonus to attack damage and mining speed, capping out at <span style="color: #e74c3c;">+35% attack damage and +20% mining speed</span> when the bar is 90% full, but this can be changed.

<span style="color: #3598db;">This mod has a comprehensive config system, allowing you to tweak values to your own liking!</span>

Systems Config

This file is located in the ModConfig folder, at %appdata\roaming\vintagestorydata\modconfig

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">noveltytakenmultiplier</span>:

- Multiplier on how much novelty is taken from a food when it's eaten, default 1.3
- By default, eating 1500 saturation of a food will take about 60% of its current novelty

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">noveltyrestoredrate</span>:&nbsp;

- Flat amount of novelty restored to every food per 1500 saturation eaten, default 0.25
- If you want to make it more difficult to obtain high novelty, I reccomend changing this value first

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">noveltymaximum</span>:

- Maximum amount of novelty contained in a food, default 10

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">buffs and debuffs</span>:

- Buffs will be applied at full strength when the bar is 90% full or more,
- Debuffs will be applied at full strength when the bar is at 0% and no strength when the bar is 90% full&nbsp;
- To find the names of some vanilla stat modifiers, check out this post <span style="color: #18bc9b;">here</span>

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">noveltydecayrate</span>:

- How fast the novelty bar decays, default 4.5% of its accumulated value per 1500 saturation lost

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">noveltydeathloss</span>:&nbsp;

- How much novelty you will lose on death, default 30% of its accumulated value

Autogen Config

This file is located in the mod's folder&nbsp;

Here you can configure the novelty group autogeneration system.&nbsp;Novelty groups are generated based on item internal names, so an item with the internal name of "mushroom-kingbolete" might generate with the "mushroom" novelty group, and the "kingbolete" novelty group.&nbsp;

- If you don't want a particular novelty group to generate, set it to "ignore", so if you didn't want the "mushroom" novelty group you would type "mushroom": "ignore"

- If you want to turn a novelty group into another one, for example grouping "partbaked" and "baked" together, you would type "partbaked": "baked"

- If you want to parse a novelty group from an item's english name instead of using it's internal name, for example parsing wines based on their in-game names instead of their internal names (relevant for stuff like cassava vodka), since all wines have "ciderportion" in their internal names, you would type "ciderportion": "parse", then type what you want the parsed names to be converted into, so for example "parsing:vodka": "vodkaportion" to ensure cassava vodka gets its own novelty group instead of just being considered a wine. If you're having trouble using the parsing system feel free to reach out to me on the discord.

Manual Novelty Group Config

This file is located in the mod's folder

Here you can manually define novelty groups for specific foods, if you can't get the autogeneration system to work on them. Just find the internal name of the item, then type that name followed by the novelty groups you want it to get. For example, vintage beef has the internal name of redmeat-vintage, so to give it custom novelty groups just type something like "redmeat-vintage": ["mysterymeat, vintage"]
