RememberPassword

A client-only BepInEx plugin for V Rising 1.1. It remembers dedicated-server join passwords on this game client after a successful join, then autofills them the next time you use the server browser, Direct Connect, or Continue.

People without the mod still type the password as usual. The dedicated server does not need this plugin.

Requirements

• V Rising 1.1
• BepInExPack_V_Rising 1.733.2 (Thunderstore)

Install (no BepInEx yet)

1. Fully quit V Rising.
2. Install BepInExPack_V_Rising 1.733.2 into the game folder (the same folder as VRising.exe), usually

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\VRising

1. Launch the game once and wait for the first-time interop console (Il2CppInteropGen). This can take several minutes. It may look frozen. Do not close it. When it finishes, quit the game.
2. Copy RememberPassword.dll and System.Security.Cryptography.ProtectedData.dll into BepInEx\plugins\.
3. Launch, join a passworded dedicated server, and type the password once. After a successful connect it is remembered.

Install (BepInEx already installed)

1. Fully quit V Rising.
2. Drop RememberPassword.dll and System.Security.Cryptography.ProtectedData.dll into BepInEx\plugins\.
3. Relaunch. Join and type the password once.

Forget a password

Fully quit V Rising, then delete BepInEx\config\RememberPassword.json (or remove just that server's row).

This file is only the mod's password list. It is not a character save or a world save.

Password storage

Passwords are encrypted with Windows DPAPI for the current Windows user (DataProtectionScope.CurrentUser).

• The JSON is useless if copied to another PC or another Windows account.
• This is not a master password. A local attacker who is already logged in as that Windows user can still decrypt the file.
• An older plaintext RememberPassword.json is migrated to DPAPI on the next successful save. After that, plaintext is not left on disk.

Passwords are never written to the BepInEx log. Only server addresses / names are logged.

Do not install on a dedicated server

Do not put this DLL on VRisingServer.exe / a dedicated-server folder. It is client-only ([BepInProcess("VRising.exe")]). Players connect with or without the mod; only the client that has it will autofill.

First BepInEx launch looks frozen

The first launch after installing BepInEx runs Il2CppInteropGen. The console can sit there for several minutes. That is normal. Wait it out, then quit and install this plugin.

• Pending password no longer sticks after cancel, timeout, or any failed join (so it cannot leak onto the next host).
• Lookups are address-only. World save names like world1 are never used as a key.
• Direct Connect, server browser, and Continue now share one normalized address key (SteamIPv4://host:port).
• Atomic JSON writes with a .bak on overwrite. A corrupt file is not wiped until a successful new save.
