Experience Tweaks

By ninakoru

More Exp from slower weapons and tools.

Description

This mod focuses on making your weapon or mining tool of choice not a problem regarding experience gain. Play whatever you want, you're no longer punished going with a slower attack speed weapon (or mining tool).

TL DR: The mod alters the experience gain on Mining, Melee, Ranged and Magic. You gain more exp the slower your weapon or mining tool is, the baseline is the fastest weapons, and there's a cap on slowest ones.

HOW EXPERIENCE WORKS:

Every time you register a hit, or you damage a block (mining) you gain 1XP, if you hit multiple enemies you may gain multiple experience, but hitting multiple blocks with a sledge hammer does NOT provide extra exp. There is one glorious exception, Musket actually gains 3 XP per shot. Everything else is just 1 XP.

This is a system that adds bonus exp depending on the weapon base attack speed used when gaining experience for mining or combat. Every weapon goes by a formula to determine the bonus XP gained, solely depending on the weapon base attack speed.

THE ACTUAL RESULTS:

IN MINING:

Drills, or beams, grants the same 1 XP (same as vanilla). Using pickaxes grants you 2 XP. Using Sledges, grant you 3 XP.

IN COMBAT (MAGIC, MELEE AND RANGED):

Arcane Staff, Quill Rifle, Daggers and Drills: 1 XP (same as vanilla). Swords and Axes and anything with that attack speed: 2 XP Bows & Hammers: 3 XP Crossbows & most Staves: 4 XP Bazookas & Mortars: 5 XP Musket, Meteor Staff and Cupid bow: 6 XP (capped)

CLOSING

I had to make a whole subsystem to be able to manage these experience adjustments, as most code related to experience is now opaque for modders. Despite the huge workarounds and imagination I needed to make it happen, ultimately uses the same system your natural xp proression uses, so you should not notice anything unusual.

The impact on performance should be not noticeable, and should work in multiplayer environments (though I could not test in those).
