Rail Network

Vanilla Core Keeper gives you rail, a minecart and a low minecart, and nothing to do with them once your base is bigger than one screen. Rail Network turns your track into a network with stations you can travel between and crossings that know where you want to go.

The two pieces

Craft both at the My Mods Table.

| Piece | Cost | Where it goes | | --- | --- | --- | | 🚉 Rail Station | 10 Wood + 5 Iron bar + 2 Rail | On the last tile of a rail line. It becomes the rail end: carts drive onto it and stop at its buffer. | | ✚ Interchange | 4 Rail + 2 Tin bar | On a rail crossing. Rails run straight into all four sides. |

The station's lamp is green when a rail is connected and grey when it isn't.

To remove a piece, mine the rail under it with a pickaxe. You get the rail and the piece back.

Travelling

Open a Rail Station (interact, like a chest). The Travel tab offers:

  • 🛒 Free ride: a golden cart you steer yourself, like a normal minecart.
  • Go ▶ next to every other station on the network, with the distance and the rough travel time. The cart drives you there, drops you beside that station and disappears.

Station carts are temporary. When you get out (E) the cart vanishes in a puff. They never drop as an item and are never saved, so you have no carts to park, fetch or lose. Your own vanilla minecarts are left exactly as they are.

In the Settings tab you can give the station a name and an icon. The icon is the station's address. Press Enter or the Save button when you are happy with the name.

Interchanges

Open an Interchange to see its four sides, with north on top. When you ride a free-ride cart through it, the exit is chosen in this order:

  • The arrow key you hold.
  • The item in your hand. Put marker items on a side, then hold one of them while you ride.
  • The ★ side, if you starred one.
  • Straight on, or the only way left.

A cart never turns back the way it came.

✨ Auto-fill puts each station's icon on the side that leads to it. Give your fishing station a fish icon, auto-fill your interchanges, and then just hold a fish while you ride: every crossing sends you the right way. While you ride towards an interchange, a small compass beside your cart shows which way you will go and why.

Compatibility

  • Vanilla rails, minecarts and low minecarts are unchanged.
  • Adds two recipes to the My Mods Table and changes none of the game's own recipes.
  • Worlds from 1.x are converted when they load. A Station Link with its Rail Station becomes a single new Rail Station; a lone Station Link is returned as a Rail Station item.
  • Safe to remove: temporary carts are never saved.
  • Works in single player and for the host. Players who join someone else's world can ride the station carts, but the station windows are designed around the host.
