ExtendedBuilding

Small doors. Tall walls. More possibilities.

Everyone has been waiting for a smaller door that doesn't break the look and feel of DayZ. Here it is – and a proper log wall to go with it.

ExtendedBuilding adds two new structures to vanilla base building:

  • Narrow Fence – a vanilla fence cut down to the width of a single metal sheet (about 1.33 m). It fits a doorway, a corridor or any gap a full-size fence can't close, and it turns into a proper door-sized gate.
  • Palisade – a wall of sharpened wooden logs, as wide as a vanilla fence (4 m) and twice as high (about 5.2 m). Nobody is looking over this one.

100% vanilla feel

  • Vanilla textures, sounds and animations – it looks like it has always been in the game
  • Vanilla building workflow – same tools, same actions, same materials
  • Uses the vanilla Combination Lock
  • No new loot to spawn, no dependencies, no other mods required

Narrow Fence

  • Craft a Narrow Fence Kit: Rope + 2 Wooden Sticks (same as the vanilla Fence Kit)
  • Place the kit and build the base with 2 Wooden Logs
  • Build the lower and upper frame: 4 Planks + 8 Nails each
  • Cover each half in wood (5 Planks + 10 Nails) or metal (3 Metal Sheets + 12 Nails)
  • Add Metal Wire to turn it into a gate and attach a lock

Palisade

  • Craft a Palisade Kit: Rope + 2 Wooden Sticks
  • Place the kit and build the base with 2 Wooden Logs – the posts stand the full height of the wall
  • Build the wall in one step: 20 Wooden Logs + 80 Nails
  • Add Metal Wire to turn it into a gate and attach a lock

The palisade wall has twice the health of a metal fence wall. The logs are rough and uneven, with narrow gaps between them – hand-built, not factory-made.

To keep both structures simple, they have no barbed wire, camo net or platform.

Locks

  • Locks hang on the fixed post, not on the swinging gate – they stay in place when the gate opens
  • The vanilla Combination Lock wraps the post and the edge of the gate
  • Code lock mods that use the vanilla lock slot are supported and sit in the middle of the post (tested with Code Lock from the Workshop)

Dismantling

  • Order matters: remove the gate wire with Pliers first, then the wall, then the base
  • Dismantling a wall, frame or cover gives back 30% to 50% of the materials used to build it
  • The gate wire and the two base logs are returned in full
  • Vanilla fences and watchtowers are not affected

Server configuration

On first start the server creates ExtendedBuilding\ExtendedBuilding.json in its profile folder. All values below are the defaults.

  • NarrowFenceCraftEnabled, PalisadeCraftEnabled (1) – set to 0 to hide the kit recipe. Existing kits and structures keep working
  • NarrowFenceFramePlanks (4), NarrowFenceFrameNails (8) – frame cost, per half
  • NarrowFenceWoodPlanks (5), NarrowFenceWoodNails (10) – wood cover cost, per half
  • NarrowFenceMetalSheets (3), NarrowFenceMetalNails (12) – metal cover cost, per half
  • PalisadeWallLogs (20), PalisadeWallNails (80) – palisade wall cost (up to 50 logs)
  • NarrowFenceDismantleReturnMinPercent (30), NarrowFenceDismantleReturnMaxPercent (50)
  • PalisadeDismantleReturnMinPercent (30), PalisadeDismantleReturnMaxPercent (50)

Changes apply after a server restart. When a mod update adds or removes settings, the file is updated in place: new settings are added with their defaults, removed ones disappear, and your values are kept.

Server installation

  • Add the mod to your server and client -mod= parameter and copy the key to your keys folder
  • Add the entries below to your mission's types.xml – without them the objects get a short default lifetime
