🎃 Halloween Coin Hunt 🎃

A server-wide Halloween scavenger hunt for DayZ. Three shiny collectible coins are hidden inside buildings across the map. Find them, grab them, and the whole server hears about it.

The Coins

  • 🟠 Pumpkin Coin: polished orange metal stamped with a grinning jack-o'-lantern
  • 🟣 Ghost Coin: shiny purple with a spooky little ghost under a crescent moon
  • ⚫ Witch Coin: glossy black with a green-faced witch and her bats

Each coin has its design embossed on both sides, a reeded edge, and a real metallic shine. They're 1x1 inventory items, so players can carry them, trade them, stash them, or show them off.

How the Hunt Works

  • On server start, the mod hides the coins inside real buildings: ground floors, upper floors and attics, never inside walls or furniture.
  • You control where: set hunt zones with a center coordinate and a radius, and coins only hide inside those circles.
  • You control how many: set the count of Pumpkin, Ghost and Witch coins separately.
  • When someone picks one up, every player gets a pop-up: "Ronin found the Ghost Coin near Old Harbor. 2 of 3 still hidden..."
  • Players who join get a hint telling them which areas still hide a coin (can be turned off for a harder hunt).
  • The hunt survives restarts. Unfound coins stay put, and missing ones are put back exactly where they were.
  • When the last coin is found, the hunt ends and the server is told who claimed it.

For Server Owners

  • Fully configurable through profiles/PumpkinCoinHunt/settings.json, created automatically on first start.
  • Hunt zones: any number of circles, each with its own name, size, pick weight, and which coins are allowed in it (e.g. put the rare Witch Coin only at your most dangerous base).
  • Spawn modes: inside buildings (default), open ground, or exact hand-picked spots.
  • Hand-placed events: turn off auto-hiding and spawn the coins yourself with any admin tool. Finds are still announced.
  • Fresh hunt anytime: flip one setting, restart, and the old coins are cleared and new ones hidden.
  • Coordinates of every hidden coin are written to the server log so admins can check the spots.
  • The loot economy never spawns coins on its own. Only the hunt (or you) can.
  • Works on any map. Built with Avalon in mind.

Class names (for admin tools, traders and types.xml):

PumpkinCoin
GhostCoin
WitchCoin

types.xml: add one entry per coin with nominal 0 / min 0 so the Central Economy doesn't spawn extras:

<type name="PumpkinCoin">
    <nominal>0</nominal>
    <lifetime>3888000</lifetime>
    <restock>0</restock>
    <min>0</min>
    <quantmin>-1</quantmin>
    <quantmax>-1</quantmax>
    <cost>100</cost>
    <flags count_in_cargo="0" count_in_hoarder="0" count_in_map="1" count_in_player="0" crafted="0" deloot="0"/>
    <category name="tools"/>
</type>

(Repeat for GhostCoin and WitchCoin.)

Ideas for Your Server

  • Put a cash or loot reward on each coin and pay out at a trader or admin.
  • Offer a big bonus for collecting all three coins.
  • Let players sell duplicates or trade them to teammates to finish their set.
  • Make the Witch Coin the rare one: hide just one, deep in a high-risk zone.

Installation

  • Server: add @PumpkinCoinHunt to your -mod= line and copy the .bikey from the keys folder into your server's keys folder.
  • Clients: subscribe and load the mod, since players need it to see the coins.
  • Add the three types.xml entries, start the server, then edit settings.json to set your hunt zones.

No other mods required.
